During long stretches growing up, we ate potato soup every day. Yes, every day. It’s a very inexpensive meal. I still love it (with the cheese & bacon).
@mfladd damn. I was feeling nostalgic already. I’m not a fan of peas in dishes. I would however eat split pea soup that my dad made. I don’t think I’ve had any since he passed away. I’m a little misty eyed now.
@mfladd@RiotDemon same. My Dad would make that three or four times every winter. We just used his recipe after Christmas this year and it was wonderful. But I add more bacon bits and diced ham than he did when we were growing up because we can afford to.

@mfladd We stop at Anderson’s in Buellton for split pea soup every time we drive down the coast - it’s about at the halfway point to LA and just one of those things you do.

Mushroom truffle soup. Probably the absolute best restaurant soup I’ve ever eaten.
Bean and polish sausage is the correct answer but I like the listed varieties. I’ve also had awesome Reuben soup as well as stuffed pepper soup. My vote was tomato and the implied grilled cheese sandwich.
@testoclesarroyo i liked what you said until you said tomato soup, with the grilled cheese sandwich tomato soup is a garnish and complements that sandwich, which is still tasty without the tomato soup.

She uses fresh tomatoes simmered down, adds browned onions, bacon pieces & more stuff.
Add one grilled Cheddar cheese sandwich.

I know she puts tomatoes to simmer down, adds a little can of tomato paste to help thicken & speed up the process, adds milk, chopped browned onions, usually chopped celery &/or carrot, a crispy bacon crumbled up, parsley and uhhh… that may be it. salt/pepper?
I like to help her in the kitchen, though she usually always cooks, I do dishes. She’s asleep or I’d go ask her…

Cream of chanterelle mushroom soup - we made this once with fresh chanterelles and I didn’t want to eat anything else ever for fear I’d lose the memory of the wonderful taste.

I love soup (and chowders) - too many to pick a favorite. But one that I love that isn’t listed is a good Split Pea.
