Here comes the sun (Beatles song but he sung it too). His version was played every day at sunrise in Key West when I was working a topsail schooner in Key West. I met him there when the boat I was working on was sailing out of the marina area and so was he. He rafted up and came aboard. The passengers were thrilled. Heck so was I.
@savvysapphire Some of the passengers met him in his bar the night before. I was on duty so couldn’t join the passengers. When on board he wanted to steer the schooner, talked a lot with the captain, sang a couple of songs for the passengers using the ratty guitar the captain had… I didn’t really get to talk to him (working, and passengers get priority for everything) but I did release his bow line and toss it to him when he was sailing off again. That has to count for something. Right? (grin).
Gotta go with “Trip around the Sun”, though that’s a cover. For Jimmy originals, “The Weather Is Here, I Wish You Were Beautiful” is a underrated classic.
My dad loves Jimmy Buffett, and now I love him too. It’s so hard to pick a favorite, but I love Fins, and Desperation Samba always gets me singing and dancing when I’m driving (even if I’m in a rotten mood)…and then there’s Come Monday. I’ll go with those are my three favorites. For today. Tomorrow that could change. And now, I’m off to listen to some Jimmy Buffett.
I can’t pick just one but I’m very fond of Cheeseburger in Paradise and Volcano, and also everything on the Banana Wind album. I grew up with my father on a boat listening to Jimmy’s music, so it’s close to my heart.
@PooltoyWolf I have to sing “Cheeseburger in pair of tights” everytime I hear it now after someone once told me thats what they originally thought the song said.
@PooltoyWolf I’m not familiar with that… But reminds me of the song “Secret Agent Man”, I think by Johnny Rivers. I always thought it sounded like he was saying “Secret Asian Man” (although I knew what he was really singing).
Anyhow, I googled it once to see if I was the only one who thought he sounded like he was saying “Asian”… There’s at least half a dozen parody songs called “Secret Asian Man” based on his song… So yes, it sounds like that to many people. Lol
@OnionSoup@PooltoyWolf My friend always thought Creedence Clearwater Revival was helpfully informing the concert audience that “There’s a bathroom on the right.”
Growing up in South Florida and having a vacation time share in the Keys, Buffet’s music has been a part of my life since he started. I have seen him perform many times. Almost anything he does live is good.
My parents were over the top Parrot Heads until a few years ago when they realized he was a democrat. Now they hate him on principal. Which is a shame since being Parrot Heads was an important part of their lives.
They listened to Jimmy constantly when I was growing up. I hated it because I liked noisy music.
I can admit that Come Monday is a genuinely good song though.
So many that were not in the list! Changes in latitude. Havana daydreaming. Living and dying in 3/4 time.
It is so amazing how much money the generated in one single song!
Oh, and this winner:
/youtube why don’t we get drunk and screw
@shahnm So many great ones to pick from.
@shahnm I don’t like Jimmy Buffet, but who can argue with a song like this?!
@shahnm I was really surprised this wasn’t on the list.
Son of a Son of a Sailor
Mmmm, I’ll pick Come Monday.
@melonscoop Then I guess the song above is dedicated to you on Monday…
@melonscoop came here to say this!
Changes in Latitude, Changes in Attitude
@kc5rbq You have chosen…wisely.

@Kidsandliz I’m extremely jealous. I’d love to meet him.

A Pirate Looks at Forty
@UglyPineapple
Came here to say this… and am surprised it is this far down the list.
@UglyPineapple That is such a good song.
@UglyPineapple Yes! This songs sings to my pirate dreams…
@UglyPineapple This is indeed the best jimmy buffett song followed closely by He went to Paris.
@cammi1 both are beautiful songs. He writes good songs that look back on life.

Juicy fruit
@shrnack74 AKA Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit. One of my favorites, too.
Pencil Thin Mustache and Havana Daydreaming.
My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don’t love Jesus.
I can’t pick just one but I’m very fond of Cheeseburger in Paradise and Volcano, and also everything on the Banana Wind album. I grew up with my father on a boat listening to Jimmy’s music, so it’s close to my heart.
@PooltoyWolf
“You bettah lovah me now or lovah me not”
@PooltoyWolf Banana Wind is a fantastic album!
@mschuette
@PooltoyWolf I have to sing “Cheeseburger in pair of tights” everytime I hear it now after someone once told me thats what they originally thought the song said.
@OnionSoup That sounds suspiciously like something I’d see on an episode of SpongeBob!
@PooltoyWolf I’m not familiar with that… But reminds me of the song “Secret Agent Man”, I think by Johnny Rivers. I always thought it sounded like he was saying “Secret Asian Man” (although I knew what he was really singing).

@Kyeh @OnionSoup HAH that’s a good one! There is an entire book on misheard lyrics, called ‘When a Man Loves a Walnut’.
“Why Don’t We Get Drunk & Screw?”
“God’s Own Drunk”
Growing up in South Florida and having a vacation time share in the Keys, Buffet’s music has been a part of my life since he started. I have seen him perform many times. Almost anything he does live is good.
Tin Cup Chalice
I’m ready.

I don’t care for his music, but I love his books.
Start with “Tales from Margaritaville”
Not that it is my favourite but how is Fins not on there?
Son of Son of A Sailor
Come Monday
@ferrellbprice Got my vote!
Door Number Three - I used to sing that one to my kids at bedtime when they let me sing songs to them.
Mental Floss
My ring tone is “Growing Older but not Up”. Good motto for life!
Also like this Zack Brown tune he is featured on:
(it was used each time they raised the sails on the Diamant)
I just hope he plays the pina colada song
@steveswan54 Does he do a cover version of Escape?
@yakkoTDI its the one that goes “if you like pina coladas, coladas, getting caught in the rain”
@steveswan54 @yakkoTDI Definitely not Jimmy’s song but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he’s covered it!
@steveswan54 That is the song Escape by Rupert Holmes.
https://genius.com/Rupert-holmes-escape-the-pina-colada-song-lyrics
@yakkoTDI are you sure, i feel like thats Buffett
@steveswan54 And that is why I linked to the lyrics for the song.
@yakkoTDI i mean ive never seen him play it, but he’s not gonna play all of his hits every single time
@yakkoTDI we may disagree on this but I think we can all agree that bathrooms shouldnt be based on gender but rather on what you are doing in there…

@steveswan54 @yakkoTDI
Wow… ISWYDT!
Jimmy Buffet - Saxphones.
Used to see him at the Armadillo, he was pretty tight with the outlaw country folks…
I don’t have a real strong opinion on this one
So many that were not in the list! Changes in latitude. Havana daydreaming. Living and dying in 3/4 time.

Are these actual song titles? I assumed they were probably terrible puns and picked cheeseburger because… cheeseburger.
@InnocuousFarmer yes actual titles.
I’m fond of his duet with Martina McBride, Trip Around the Sun.
