Since you just called it “Atari,” I’m going to assume you are referring to the VCS/2600.
@cinoclav In the early 2000’s they re-released these (though I am not sure about the hockey) and I still see them occasionally in stores. The basketball added a 3-point shot. Obviously it was for grown-ups like us who remembered the originals, as I can’t imagine LED blips could hold the intention of many current day kids.
My first was an “Intellivision” made by Mattel Electronics but I have to go with the original NES for a combination of nostalgia, varying degrees of difficulty, variety of games and cost.
Or the MB Microvision console. It was the first handheld console, and the cartridge was a faceplate that would house the appropriate buttons for its game, plus an overlay, if needed. The paddle controller was built-in.
I had the Turbografx TurboExpress handheld. It was awesome; used the same HuCard (cartridge) as the full console. Lower resolution, so some things didn’t look right (Falcon F-16 for example, the readout was unreadable) but otherwise, it was way ahead of its time.

It’s crazy all the games that show up on the Switch. If you have a game, it’s getting crammed on there. If it doesn’t fit, it will.
I am constantly amazed and impressed by the Switch for that reason. Force of nature, that little glorified cell phone is.
It’s like Nintendo heard of Valve for the first time and thought, “That sounds nice.” (I know, it’s more of a market thing than a Nintendo thing, but… eh.)
Added bonus for me, Nintendo’s behind the curve enough that they don’t require your cell phone number before they’ll deign to allow you to play games on their toy machine. I had an Xbox One, but sold it instead of making that capitulation. I’ve got nothing but rage for that kind of abusive arm-twisting.
It is super close for me between the switch and PS4. I play more games on the switch lately, but the PS4 is FAR better as a media center console and sees a lot of use as a streaming aggregator for me as well as a game console.
I gave it to the PS4 for that reason, but the Switch was a close second.
Nintendo 64.
Still have and love my Atari 2600, Jaguar, and Lynx.
I think the Lynx was the best handheld of it’s time, and for quite a bit after. Very underrated.

Who doesn’t love another proprietary store/launcher? Steam, Origin, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Epic, and GOG.
I have so many awesome games in my libraries that I have never installed. Yet.
