When online BF “deals” (term used under advice) started being advertised in October, the real meaning of Black Friday became clear to even the last few diehard shopping-nirvanists; it’s a gimmick, as in fact it always has been since it got named. Before it had a name, the day after US Thanksgiving had a rep for being the official start of the holiday shopping season, and advertised “doorbuster” specials were often worth the hassle of trying to get. Now? It’s a good day to stay home.
