Anyone familiar with 3D VR?
6(I’ve posted this but it disappeard, so in case it decides to show up again, I apologize for the double post)
I have an aunt and uncle that are in their 80’s and can’t travel, so I thought I’d get them VR googles for Christmas (done!).
I’m looking for some good sites to download software (Android), but I know nothing about it.
I’d like to find some software that is interactive and lasts for more than just a couple of minutes instead of just still 3D pictures.
I know that my uncle is interested in the Karnak Temple in Egypt, but most any travel sites will do. I haven’t found much that doesn’t interest them.

Check out the collection of 3D videos on YouTube. Last year when I received my first set of VR goggles I “went” skydiving with a YT video. Everything from prep, to tarmac, to flight, to the jump and eventually the landing. The entire video was in 3D and was much longer than a mere few minutes. I don’t know if Karnak is to be found on YT, but there are many nice ones out there.
@danlo Yeah, I “went” snowboarding on (in?) my Google Cardboard in July. I also took quite a few 3D still photos of my much beloved dog, who passed away in March. I’m glad I have them as mementos. I intend to take some on my future travels. The only downside is that they’re not easy to share.

@moondrake I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost a dog over 4 years ago and still break down in tears over her. I’m glad that you have your photos! I wish I had been able to do that with my little girl.

@moondrake if you liked viewing your 3D photos you should try out Cardboard Camera also by Google.
it shoots panorama photos like any other app would, except when it is done processing you can view them in a VR headset, complete with motion sensing and full 3D.
i do not know exactly the magic behind gleaning a 3D image from a camera with just one lens. it might have something to do with the sweeping motion you make while panorama shooting. but it is outstanding.
@NAFderwin Thanks, that’s what I’m using, it makes 3D full surround photos. It took a bit to realize I should start and end with the least important part of the image as it’s hard to get the “seam” perfectly aligned, but the images are very cool.
Hopefully you got them a name brand headset with a code stamped on it. You have to install google cardboard and scan the code on the headset to “pair” it with the phone you’re using.

@Tadlem43 You’re welcome. What brand headset did you get? I have a list of QR codes to use if one isn’t to be found.
According to the mfg., it doesn’t need Google Cardboard, but you can download it to find content.
I think it’s a Tekplus or something? Certainly not high end, but the reviews were all 5/5. I figured for what they needed it would be ok.

I know you said that you’re looking for 360 videos, but Google Expeditions might fit the bill as well. Even though they are 360 photos, Google has updated the platform to include a feature that allows users to explore Expeditions on their own without the need for a “leader” device. As well, they’ve added narration to many of their Expeditions and are adding more all the time.
Someone already mentioned the YouTube 360 channel and that’s also a great resource. I haven’t seen anyone really pull away from the pack of VR content providers like Google has. If there are others I’m not aware of, I’d be very interested to hear about them as well.
