@Kidsandliz@ParadisePete I’m a different person than you asked, but I have a refurbished shark pet vac that I got on here at least 3 or 4 years ago and it’s still running great. I like it a lot.
@ParadisePete yes. I live in a small place and the rug has little nap. Sucks up throw rugs if you aren’t careful. Picks up cat hair fine. It’s a lift away. Corded. Bin for junk you vacuum up could stand to be a bit bigger but easy to empty and can do so without making a big mess (well other than dust rising).
@Kidsandliz My random Shark anecdote: bought a Shark vacuum about 10 years ago from a deal site and it held up great EXCEPT for the power switch, which wore out a couple of years ago. No problem I thought, I’ll just replace it. Which I did, but it took many hours because: Shark doesn’t sell parts, Shark doesn’t have service manuals, if you find parts aftermarket you are on your own installing them and will need to find a YouTube video with a teardown because the way Shark vacuum cleaners are constructed is optimized for manufacturing not servicing (in other words: it is the most complicated 3D puzzle you can imagine) and that is also why you often can’t find any pros willing to service them either. Luckily I found a video posted by a guy in the UK who picked up a Shark model very similar to mine discarded on the side of the road with the power cord cut off that he hoped to fix with a new cord (didn’t work since the motor turned out to be toast), and it was super helpful since I got to see him make some mistakes doing the tear down that revealed that yes you need to teardown the whole vacuum to get to the power switch, and there are two absolutely essential screws hidden underneath buttons you can pop off with a screwdriver, but some of the buttons you can’t pop off with a screwdriver and if you try you will break the plastic button and there’s no way to know ahead of time unless you find a video like I did. So I got lucky. Vacuum is still going strong. Ironically, when I bought my house last year one of the things the previous owners left behind was (you guessed it!) a Shark vacuum. It was nasty dirty, but cleaned up great and works fine. So now I have two. Yay?
@natefarious What you have is spare parts for the future. I knew about the can’t repair it unless you pay through the teeth mailing it to shark before I bought it used here, but I figured it will be a number of years before I need to get it fixed and I wasn’t going to worry about it now. I’ll give it away when it breaks as it isn’t going to be worth a zillion dollars in postage to mail it to Shark. I wonder how many of these end up in landfills unlike my ancient Hoover bagged that is still going strong but bags are expensive when you have 4 cats.
[…] Air Watt is not an internationally defined, physical unit. The figures that manufacturers give for Air Watt should not be seen as values that can be directly compared […]
So, a mostly meaningless number that at best could only be compared between models from the same manufacturer.
@lonnyzone For purposes of comparison, my Tineco A10 Hero is rated for 110AW in max mode with freshly cleaned filters, and it’s decidedly anemic. It will only run for a maximum of seven mninutes in that mode, and it never had the kind of power that would have made me go “Wow”, though when first received it was adequate for the purposes I needed.
@awk@Mio They’re known for making battery packs that power other stuff, so it baffles me that they didn’t figure out that we might have wanted the battery pack for this to be a separate part so that it could be swappable.
@awk@Mio@werehatrack They don’t “make” anything. They go to trade shows, find stuff and have their name stamped on it. That’s why there is no repair department and replacement parts.
@alacrity If you have 8 cats and 2100 sq ft, this thing’s likely to choke and go on strike. I have a different unit with allegedly higher ratings, and it’s Just Not Adequate. So I got the more powerful of the two Ryobi stick vacuums, and that really has been doing the job.
@werehatrack I have 12 (fostered) & 1700’ and had mine 5 months.
it does fine- my only bitch is I have to empty it every other time I use it- but for grab’n go it beats the shit out of a dustbuster and takes up everything but a wet hairball.
it’s not a Hoover rototiller, but for quick work & stairs it f’n rocks.
I bought some no-name off Amazon that looks exactly like this vac except for the logo. Even the color scheme is identical.
Maybe this one is better, but the Amazon one is garbage. The filter element clogs almost instantly with any amount of dust and even when it is clean the sucking power leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of times I’ll turn it off only to have dirt that was hovering part way up to the chamber fall out and back onto the floor.
@jandrese The components inside (batteries, power electronics, filter material, etc…) make all the difference. Sounds like the no-name brand skimped in a lot of areas. Even though the outside plastics look alike, Anker’s reputation for using quality components could really make a difference. In this case, it sounds like the Anker/Eufy branding indicates better quality components inside.
@jandrese@mwarren You have a definite point about lookalike not being equivalent to is-alike. The Chinese manufacturers of copycat products are adept at imitating visible characteristics like shape, placement of various bits and clips, and overall appearance of a popular product, while getting the functional bits just barely right enough to get orders at the trade shows. It’s an ingrained thing in one part of their culture, and there’s a word for it; chabuduo.
Whoever wrote the copy - I’m pleased that you called out the advertisers for showing people vacuuming huge piles of cereal or spilled M&Ms, because that always looks so stupid! How about pet hair? That would make a lot more sense.
@Kyeh Pet hair from the spot where Fluffy has been defiantly doing the one-eye-cracked-open I-am-asleep-and -you-will-not-disturb-me glare for the past month…
@detailer@Kyeh Yeah, and cereal is still complete bull in most cases. The typical flat-floor brush head will just shove large debris like typical cereal or kibble out of the way instead of picking it up, and the heavier small particles will get propelled back past the underside of the brush head and hit the user’s feet instead of getting picked up. And with the worst of the lot, the higher-density small debris that’s inhaled will remain suspended in the moving air column inside the tube, waiting to fall back out into the brush head (and/or onto the floor) when the unit is shut down.
About 15 years ago my wife bought a Eureka canister vac MADE IN SWEDEN that was very quiet and used toss-out HEPA bags. At $350, I had my doubts. But all these years later it still stuffs those bags tight and is still so quiet the cats don’t care. Today, the same vac is made in China, so who knows how good it is.
Eureka was reportedly bought by Electrolux in 2004, which would explain yours being made in Sweden. Electrolux was bought by a Chinese outfit some years later.
@EvilSmoo Eufy has other products. Vacuums and doorbell cameras, off the top of my head. Anker is usually USB power stuff. I had no idea they had any relation.
For purposes of comparison, my $250 Ryobi weighs about 3.9 lbs with the crevice tool without the battery installed. So if you’re looking for lightness, this wins vs. that monster.
Ima keep my monster. Monster fierce enemy of dirts.
Is this thing any good for picking dehydrated bodies up off the sidewalk? My current temp here in central tex at 4:30 pm is 99 degrees (at least it’s F and not C) with a “feels like” of 112. Maybe by 5 pm it will be cool?
Our actual temp yesterday was reported as 110.
My inside dog wants to go outside and chase the cats in our back yard. She gets out on the deck and then turns around to come back in. We’ve done this several times today.
At least the potential rolling blackouts due to electricity usage close to max capacity have not happened (yet). Last I checked on the ERCOT site we were operating safely below capacity. https://www.ercot.com/
Actually, usage yesterday looked worse; it was at about 97% capacity and weather was predicted worse today.
I’ve got an errand to run. Hope to live to post again.
@radi0j0hn Roger, that. Every morning and every night I put water and food out for the cats. My dog helps drink the water but I try to keep (most of) the cat food out of her reach. The dog spends most of the day inside (otherwise she and the cats would have a heat stroke, from her harassing them), but she still helps them drink most of two gallons a day. I’ve even seen the kittens (three of them) having a go at the water bowl, though they’re not completely weaned yet.
All but I seem to be acclimatized to this infernal heat we’ve been going through for most of two weeks now.
Above I said it had gotten down to 99, but while I was on my errands, the reporter on the radio said it was still registering 103 (about 5:45). Yesterday we set our all time record highfor the date at 110 actual.
In the first two pictures, it’s obvious that that the vac is not running. Quelle surprise. What I want to know is who made that realistically blurred debris that is simulating junk being dumped out of a canister that has zero dust clinging to the inside, and clearly was not employed in vacuuming up anything. Or is that cereal photoshopped?
Is it my imagination or did that brain- numbing font color get toned down. Earlier I could hardly look at it for fear the letters had become sentient and were starting to move on their own.
I am going to suck it up and say no as I still have a working refurbished Shark I bought here.
@Kidsandliz Are you happy with it?
@Kidsandliz @ParadisePete I’m a different person than you asked, but I have a refurbished shark pet vac that I got on here at least 3 or 4 years ago and it’s still running great. I like it a lot.

@Kessilari tagging you as I just answered ParadisePete

I’m sorry, I never comment here, but I just have to say something about this:
“Will run for 35 minutes on one charge, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but actually is a lot”
No, I strongly disagree! I don’t think that’s a lot at all!
@theanthonyya It would be adequate if the battery pack was swappable, but it’s not.
How many AW do you need? Is 75 a lot? What the heck is an AW?
@lonnyzone Air Watts. I had never heard of it either. But apparently 75AW is not so hot.
https://www.popularvacuums.com/articles/vacuum-cleaner-buying-guide.html
@lonnyzone According to a quick google search:
So, a mostly meaningless number that at best could only be compared between models from the same manufacturer.
@lonnyzone For purposes of comparison, my Tineco A10 Hero is rated for 110AW in max mode with freshly cleaned filters, and it’s decidedly anemic. @lonnyzone @werehatrack Sounds like it’s “air-quotes Watts” — meaning that they want to say “Watts” but aren’t legally allowed to.
Sounds like 75 people said "AW - it thinks it is a real vacuum.
/giphy SkyTV-cute-aww-aw
@lonnyzone https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airwatt
@lonnyzone 75 AW = 7.5W … Which the Dyson is 15 W for $200 for double the power.
I like how this takes a negative (a short runtime) and turns it into a positive (it encourages you to work faster).
@awk It’s funny how a company known for making cheap chargeable batteries can’t make a better battery powered appliance.
@awk @Mio They’re known for making battery packs that power other stuff, so it baffles me that they didn’t figure out that we might have wanted the battery pack for this to be a separate part so that it could be swappable.
@awk @Mio @werehatrack They don’t “make” anything. They go to trade shows, find stuff and have their name stamped on it. That’s why there is no repair department and replacement parts.
ok, full disclosure- scored this on Amazon at a stupid discount. IT IS WORTH EVERY CENT.
75aw translates to 20kpa- which mean unless you’re trying to suck the 3 month collection of lint out of your belly-button, this thing’ll do fine.
if you have a pad that takes more’n 35 minutes to vacuum, buy a Dyson because your house is more’n 10k square feet.
this thing is impressive.
@alacrity If you have 8 cats and 2100 sq ft, this thing’s likely to choke and go on strike. I have a different unit with allegedly higher ratings, and it’s Just Not Adequate. So I got the more powerful of the two Ryobi stick vacuums, and that really has been doing the job.

your call.
@alacrity 20 kpa, what is that in margaritas?
@alacrity @sligett Not even close to Floor.
@sligett Shit-faced
An Anker? Where do I plug my phone in?
@phendrick Your butt.
@yakkoTDI Something’s in the way; is that your head?
@phendrick It is not mine specifically but after checking the inventory of my trunk I do know whose it is.
@yakkoTDI
This sucker deals!!
This is the perfect Christmas or birthday gift for your wife. (Raw steak for your black eye is extra)
@hchavers you mean your ex-wife, I think
@hchavers will be remembered ,
Anchor is huge. Every ship has one!
@bugger Yes, but this is the S11 Lite…only works for small boats on calm waters.
I bought some no-name off Amazon that looks exactly like this vac except for the logo. Even the color scheme is identical.

@Kyeh True, but M&Ms and some cereals are so much more “attractive” for marketing purposes.
@detailer @Kyeh Yeah, and cereal is still complete bull in most cases. @clonetek …thumbug?
It’s an attractive price, and a well-known brand, but I think I’ll stick with my Ryobi that cost more than twice as much.
In case anyone was wondering, it’s an “S11 lite” not a “lite stick vacuum” though it’s also that due to it being an S11 Lite.
Hope that helps.
It’s very tempting, but I already have a similar Dyson stick and several other vacuums in the house already…
Anker and Eufy are the same company?
@kostia Anker is brand, Eufy is model?
@EvilSmoo @kostia I didn’t know (W)Anker was a brand now…
@EvilSmoo Eufy has other products. Vacuums and doorbell cameras, off the top of my head. Anker is usually USB power stuff. I had no idea they had any relation.
@kostia I didn’t know until now, but Eufy is an Anker brand. https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/14/eufy/
@kostia Soundcore too.
Yup.
I believe “Anker Innovations” is the parent company. Its brands include:
• Anker
• Soundcore
• Eufy
• Nebula
Hope that helps.

@phendrick @radi0j0hn Lived here (central Tx) for 48 years and I still have to acclimatize to the heat each summer. Thankfully it’ll only get worse.
