A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood (movie discussion)

Just left the movie theater after watching A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood.

I’m a blubbering mess. As I was walking through the parking lot all I could think was that I wish I could have a hug.

Has anyone else seen it yet?

I was planning on skipping it. Black Christmas is more my speed. Should I go?

- @sammydog01 Even though I cried, I did enjoy it. It was like watching a really long episode of Mr Rogers neighborhood.

- @RiotDemon @sammydog01 Can’t say I’ve watched more than 5 minutes of a Mr Rogers show. I guess I was a teenager when it first came out.
  Doubt if I’ll go to a blubbering cry movie… lol

- @daveinwarsh I’d say that Mr. Roger’s was before my time too but apparently not. It aired from 1979 to 2001. Also from 1968 to 1976.
  
  I just don’t really remember it being a show that I watched. The movie wasn’t about just him, there was a whole other story happening about a writer sent to interview him. It was interesting.

- @RiotDemon 1968. I was in 9th grade. I don’t remember anything about watching Mr Rogers.
  Also, if I pay to go to a movie, I prefer action flicks.

- @medz @RiotDemon At the end of every Neighborhood of Make Believe segment, when they zoomed in on the tunnel the trolley had just entered, I always tried to concentrate really, really hard. I was hoping I could make the trolley come back out and the show could stay in the Neighborhood of Make Believe a little longer.
  Not that I didn’t like the “normal” neighborhood parts.

Great movie! Tom Hanks is awesome and the story truly is a Beautiful one. We need more Fred Rogers these days.

He needs to hurry up and do Forrest Gump 2. The world has been waiting. Or maybe it’s just me. Apollo 11 made it back, Sulli landed the plane, and the Polar Express has returned. If he doesn’t hurry up, this box of chocolates will melt (due to global warming?).

Posing as pilot Sully, Gump is able to successfully crashland Apollo 13 in the Pacific thanks to a terminal repairman emailing instructions from Philadelphia. Captured by pirates, he escapes with the aid of a mermaid to a volcanic island where he finds a small package containing a bell. Ringing it, a train appears that takes him to Mr Rogers neighborhood, unfortunately under assault by Nazis. With the aid of a Texas socialite he is able to equip a bunch of toy volunteers with Stinger missiles, and knock the Nazis out of the ballpark. Rebuilding is time consuming and expensive, so he symbolically recreates the suburban neighborhood with a big hologram. They throw a bachelor party to celebrate, which is extremely loud.
  
  Now THAT’S something I’ll bet even @daveinwarsh would like to see!

eh, I’m a person who doesn’t like to watch trailers, and it bit me in the ass this time. I assumed this would be a movie about Mr. Rogers. Instead, it’s a movie about some sad asshole who meets Mr. Rogers and turns it around.

I didn’t care about the sad asshole. I would have been better off watching a documentary about Mr. Rogers.

  I’ve seen that documentary above about a trillion times. At least. It’s really lovely, and reminds me of what a good human being Fred Rogers was. It’s all over cable (or at least it was, for a while), and it was good to see him, and to hear the backstory of how things got started.
  
  I haven’t yet seen the movie. I don’t do well in crowds, and after hearing comments here, and elsewhere, I think I can wait for it to arrive on cable.
