7TH BIRTHDAY SURPRISE: A Tale of Woe And Misery (probably)
7Like many, I was delighted to see I was gifted a Meh 7th Birthday Surprise. I also just moved on August 17th, so I wasn’t planning to order anything, but I did have the USPS forwarding instructions to my new address when the surprise came.
Here’s the current status of my surprise. Also, I’ve been avoiding threads for fear of spoilers, so NO SPOILERS PLEASE.

TL;DR Why can’t the post office just deliver it to the new address on record, which is 7 minutes away from the original destination rather than go ALL THE WAY BACK TO TEXAS FIRST??? Meh.

@Thumperchick @AcraigL The package does have “return service requested” printed on it. USPS is instructed to return to sender if it is not deliverable to the original address.

@speediedelivery Getting there! We close on the old place on the 16th. And lots of things to do in the new house. Just finished putting on a new roof. But we love it so much. Thanks for asking!

Is it the same zip code? If not sorting would go back to regional distribution center. From the post I would guess you are not somewhere that Dallas should get it.
Is your forward active and “in the system”? I am wondering if your carrier knew to forward but the clerk saw “no forward on file” and returned it undeliverable. It should not happen but…
Other possibility is if package has “return service requested” (I don’t think so but I will check mine when I get home.)
@speediedelivery Nope, in PA. The forward is active, several other pieces of mail made the short jump. It is a different zip code, but everything has made the transition so far. As I said, it’s literally the next town over. No idea while it traveled back to its birthplace.
Oh goodie. It’s in a new place in Texas now. I hope it’s enjoying the local tour.
@ACraigL maybe it’ll arrive with stickers from all the wonderful places it’s been. Photos from bars where too much drinking was done, receipts from seedy motels, an unused train ticket to Fargo, a forged drivers license, and a business card from someone named “Candy”

@Barney sorry, we can’t really replace them. I’ve managed to get my hands on one for this specific case, but these were limited and just enough were made to cover everyone who earned one. (And me. I require one in my life.)
@Thumperchick I’ve heard rumors that my Irk is hitchhiking down I-35 towards Texas. (Why in the hell he’d go there, who knows?) Anyway, maybe he will show up on my doorstep again.

@ybmuG Nope. It’s been stuck in Texas since the 31st. Guessing if it doesn’t move by Tuesday, @thumperchick will help give it nudge.
