Hmm, the last two times I paid $30 for 120 of them, but these do have other flavors that are fancier than the default “caramel” so… Hmm. Still tempted.
Edited to add: I see that these are slightly bigger than the previous ones. Old ones were 1 oz each, these are 10.94 oz for 8, so 1.3675 oz each. So to be fair, it was $0.25 per ounce last time, and $0.274 per ounce this time, which is pretty comparable.
@JT954 I like them. My husband is a damned addict who tries to recruit people. So, I guess mileage may vary, but I don’t think you’d dislike them. $30 for a new, tasty, experience isn’t all that bad and this will last you several months.
@JT954 If you like super-sweet treats that get stuck in your teeth, go for it. I don’t, so I don’t care for Stroopwafels, but it comes down to personal preference.
@The_Tim Especially cheese expirations. looks at standard cheddar, due to expire next week eyeballs ‘aged’ cheddar, which apparently expire 3 years ago
Meh is being strategic with these Stroopwafels. It first sold me few small packets to get me hooked. And as soon as withdrawal reached peak level, BAM 192 Stroopwafels. Goodbye wallet, welcome diebetus.
@Faffs@zsunsun, again I tend to disagree. I actually have Diabetes Mellitus II, [which is Latin for ‘Sweet Pee’] that I received via the herbicide exposure of the dreaded Agent Orange!! Mr Brimely, or whatever his fn name just mispronounced da word on purpose when he fn said ‘Diabetus’!! That is Not the Medical pronunciation of the word & again, that’s my story & I’m sticking to it!! NOTE: The term may be a fn Greek, instead of a fn Latin word, ergo, I’ll Google it just to find out for myself which it is & Sorry, for this long damn answer, My Bad!! {So far, my Webster Dictionary says it is Greek!} I’ll take my coffee & pain medsto chill out this rainy morning!!
@1DisabledWarVet@zsunsun You totally missed the humor. Went Wooosh.
Way too many people incorrectly call it “sugar diebetus”. That included my cousin who had Type 1, and several relatives, and a dear friend who had Type 2 (had, because they succumbed to it). Besides the incorrect pronunciation, calling it sugar is redundant.
@Faffs@zsunsun, Faffs, I do agree you & I have differing opinions of what good humor is & is not even remotely that funny, but be that as it may, ya failed to get my sarcasm, so that musta went Woosh, over Your head! I think all the people who call it Sugar Diebitus, or whatever are only in your circle of friends, and relatives because it doesn’t apply down here in the South [USA], God’s Country.
I can’t fathom why someone who uses sarcasm to color their humor can’t seem to grasp when others are doing the same thing. That’s kinda like dishing it out, yet just not able to take it. Just because their was a bit of truth in my comment shouldn’t make you think I’m not also trying to be a bit funny Don’t worry Mr Faffs, cause you’ll always be the winner in any pissing contest with me because I Am, contrary to what some might think, truly disabled, so ya got me there, bubba.
And finally, no, your sarcasm didn’t Zoom past my head, or over it because when you used the word ‘sugar’, I said to myself, "That’s like saying, I have Insulin Disorder!! LOL!! I do, understand redundancy & being a bit superfluous, and BTW, LOL,…means, Low On Liquor!! Another joke, I’m on the wagon, so to speak!
So, Please, Faffs, gimmie a break,…I may just be as super intelligent as you are!!
@1DisabledWarVet@zsunsun It’s Ms. Faffs, tyvm. And I heard sugar diebetus more in NC, TN, and FL than in my birth state of NY. I hear it often enough now that I’m living in Ohio. Perhaps you live in a more sophisticated part of the south than I have been to.
You went on a rant on the etymology of what it was called. All I quipped was sugar vs splenda.
Have a good day. And thank you for your service ( we are contemporaries, btw, based on your mention of Agent Orange)
@Faffs@zsunsun, well, doggy,…speaking of Tn, I live near Memphis, Tn & live out in the country away from the maddening crowd…Far Away! So, I guess I can say, “He’s A Female”!! LOL!! Again, Ha, Ha, Ha,…it’s extremely puzzling why when someone uses any facts, And is [just slightly], or a wee bit serious all of the fn sudden, they’re going into a rant, a rage, so LOL & JSYK, Ma’am, I take Muscle Relaxer meds for chronic cramps & take a strong regimen of a chronic pain analgesic, so I stay super relaxed 99.9% of the day. One PTSD coping tool I use is Humor, and I prefer sarcastic humor but I do use facts & data just to cover my buttocks & outta an abundance of BS!! Nooow, that doesn’t sound like every word I say is with All Capital Letters, does it¿ WELL, DOES IT, MA’AM LOL!!
@1DisabledWarVet@zsunsun I can relate to the chronic pain. Unfortunately I have a genetic condition that makes all but the strongest of pain meds almost ineffective, and I cannot take nsaids (severe negative side effects) Where most folks can take tramadol, percoset, etc, I might as well pop Skittles. If you haven’t yet, give a try to CBD or kratom. Those, old fashioned aspirin, and a few supplements like tumeric keeps the pain to background noise for the most part.
@mbersiam, well, instead of posting it, senda video ‘sayin’ it so we can see if you are really having fun saying it & pronouncing the name right!! Please!!
@mbersiam@pmarin, I beg to disagree, although to each their own. The Netherland version leaves out the ‘R’, as in Stoopwafel & the ‘wafel’ is pronounced like ‘waffel’!! Also, in the UK it is, more, or less, pronounced just as we, or I do, at least!! My way is Stroop like ‘troop’, and the Wafel, like ‘waffel’!! That’s my story & I’m sticking to it, but Thanks, for ur input!!
I really want to try these, but I really don’t need to get back into triple digit stroopwafels just to catch em all. A pack of one of each plus a mystery (poorest seller) double up and I’m good!
@reeldl yeah that’s important. the individual wraps are great. but I think we only got those packs due to the airline thing… and people worrying about expiration dates which, for these, don’t matter that much.
I’m assuming this deal is for 8 in 1 bag as you say. Still OK, just not quite as convenient.
@OnionSoup I accept you for who you are and I feel your pain. I hate the taste of ginger and have to be careful about expressing this in public for fear a nearby ginger-lover may overhear me & misinterpret my comment as disparaging to his fair-skinned, auburn-haired girlfriend. Or worse–it may be overheard by someone who actually likes ginger.
@mellowirishgent did you perchance get the fake-sugar low-carb version one they sold? My diabetic roommate liked those ones but I’ve had really good stroopwafles and that was not it.
@haydesigner@mellowirishgent Did you warm them as recommended? Traditionally this is done by placing over your hot cup of tea or coffee. Also can be done with 5-10 seconds in the microwave.
@ulnek well have you priced Oreo cookies lately? or any US commercial brand of snack product?
Plus, these have to come on a plane from Holland, maybe the same plane that used to carry passengers who were given the individually-wrapped Stroopwafels sold here before.
@pmarin@ulnek
1.36 oz individually wrapped stroopwafel 45.3125 cents per wafel, 33 cents per ounce. (with shipping)
2.2 oz individually wrapped Little Debbie Star Crunch cakes (the gold standard of individually wrapped treats) 27.33 cents per treat, 12.42 cents per ounce.
I agree with ulnek. They’re expensive. And if you’re aiming for diabeetus then Little Diabeetus will get you there faster and cheaper.
Bought the maple and the chocolate ones from side deal last week for the same price. They’re bigger, thicker, and NOT individually wrapped. They’re 8 boxes of 8 per order.
Expirations are Sept and October 2021
So these are 8 boxes of 1 flavor, so $3/box. In the Netherlands these “specialty” stroopwafels (chocolate, maple) go for €1.79/$2.16 per bag of 8. So the markup for getting them in the US is $0.84 per bag, not bad.
Caramel stroopwafels are €1.65/$1.99 per bag of 12 in the Netherlands; here you’d pay $4.50 per 12, so you’re paying $2.51 extra per 12 to get them in the US. That’s a bit trickier to say if it’s worth it.
I do like that these are in cute paper boxes so they’d make nice gifts. And the maple seems like a decent deal for being delivered to your door in the US.
@blaineg Thanks! I didn’t see that anywhere, and the order didn’t seem to go through with the mehdown, so I got my predominant-abundant-box manually.
Also, I can’t edit my post now but I just noticed, for some reason the “plain” ones here are honey which is horrifying. Normal Dutch stroopwafels are with caramel. Glad I got the maple…
@owenversteeg In the US I can only find the non-caramel flavors at World Market for 4.99 for a box like this, so even with shipping this is a little more than a dollar cheaper a box.
That being said, this means I’ll have 8 boxes of chocolate stroopwafels in the house…
Wow… Airlines are really giving away their stock before the huge (at least in the US) post-COVID summer rush to travel. Their stock is probably gonna expire soon so be weary of the expiration date!
@shiranissosexy Hmmmm… just read the expiration date on these. I wonder if airlines believe travel will still be down through the end of the year. While definitely up from last year, I’m fairly sure it’ll be down from 2019 levels. Question is, knowing that one of the biggest purchasers (airlines) would cancel or not order Stroopwafels, why did Daelmans decide to churn out as many as it did?
@phendrick@shiranissosexy As an airline customer eating a stroopwafel consider that this cookie is rather expensive since you need an airline ticket and associated taxes and fees along with more luck than needed for an IRK to get it. (Luck as in right airline, right flight, right time of day, right class of passage, etc.)
Then consider that the “last mile” of that delivery is exclusively by air and air alone, then in “normal” use these high altitude treats are expensive indeed.
I just got the maple from Sidedeal - the daily deal 10 days ago. It’s good, but not especially maple-y. I’m tempted by the chocolate… but probably would be better off buying tonight’s daily deal from SD, a Philips electric toothbrush.
@DVDBZN the “risk” is that the flavor you hope for (maybe chocolate?) will sell-out and so the “variety” will be a better deal on whatever is left. But we also don’t know their starting inventory and they may not have the same quantities of each to start with.
First time I saw these listed, I was interested until I saw it was the fake sweetener type. Every time I’ve seen them since, I’ve figured it was the same fake type . . . until I looked at them today. Now I’m interested again.
I bought me the Chocolate ones since the others expired, but they taste da same as they did a wk before the expiration date!! Like the Pro Tipper said: Place them in the Freezer, [or a very cold fridge]!!
@1DisabledWarVet yeah these are fairly indestructible and the “best by date” is not that important as long as they remain sealed. Kind-of like the proverbial 20-year Twinkie.
In street markets or bakeries in Holland you can get fresh ones which are, of course, fresher. But once you get to the packaged commercial brands, these don’t really degrade over time.
So I’m pretty sure these are not individually wrapped. Even though I’m intrigued by the chocolate wafels I will have to pass. I can’t pass these out to friends and co-workers if they’re not individually wrapped.
I’m sure they’re tasty, but each 3.5 oz serving (presumably about 1 vaffle) contains 13 grams sat fat, 36 grams sugar, and 600mg salt. And betcha can’t eat just one! So buy 'em by the boatload!! (Brought to you by the United Fund For Cardiologists Welfare.)
People must be reviewing these based off of nostalgia. I’m very disappointed in these. I looked at the comments before I bought them and was expecting these amazing treats… They taste like different flavors teddy grahams. And there’s basically no filling in them at all, unlike the picture. Legit taste like soft chocolate/honey/maple teddy grahams. Will not be buying again, and will be giving most of the boxes away
I just got the chocolate ones. They’re fine but not all that chocolatey. It’s just the wafer that’s chocolate-flavored, no coating, and the filling is the same caramel as the normal ones.
@Kyeh Yeah the filing was fine, but the waffle tasted slightly bitter to me. Was expecting a sweeter more refined chocolate flavor. If I could go back, I would’ve gotten the honey or just the regular ones.
@kuoh The maple ones have turned out to be my favorites! They don’t taste strongly maple-ish; I probably wouldn’t have known that’s what they’re supposed to be. They just taste good!
There’s enough of them you can use them as poker chips for Stroop poker.
@OnionSoup I can’t top this.
@OnionSoup or use them as Hockey Pucks when they all expire this fall!!
Hmm, the last two times I paid $30 for 120 of them, but these do have other flavors that are fancier than the default “caramel” so… Hmm. Still tempted.

What the heck, count me in for the maple.

@The_Tim I bought the chocolate ones from Side Deal and they are sooo good.
Still never tried these. Would have preferred a variety pack to check them out.
@JT954 I like them. My husband is a damned addict who tries to recruit people. So, I guess mileage may vary, but I don’t think you’d dislike them. $30 for a new, tasty, experience isn’t all that bad and this will last you several months.
@JT954, you are invited to buy a variety pack(age) for the low priceof $72 & free shipping if you pay up that $4.95, or whatever, per month!!
@JT954 If you like super-sweet treats that get stuck in your teeth, go for it. I don’t, so I don’t care for Stroopwafels, but it comes down to personal preference.
I’m waffling on this one
I have already gained a massive amount of weight just sitting at home this past year. Do you want me to explode?
/giphy explode
The Refurbished stroopwaffles looked better.
Pro tip: Put them in the freezer and only take out a few at a time. I laugh in the face of food expiration dates!
@The_Tim Especially cheese expirations.
looks at standard cheddar, due to expire next week
eyeballs ‘aged’ cheddar, which apparently expire 3 years ago
@brainmist @The_Tim Cheese cannot go bad.
It just turns into other cheese.
@blaineg @brainmist @The_Tim Yep - the more spoiled the more expensive it is.

@msayler
@rileyper My wife loves this commercial. It makes me sad that they’re that “old” now
Why is there no pack of each option? I wanna try them all, but who needs 180 stroopinwaffens?
@bph I do, I’m buying diebetus
Meh is being strategic with these Stroopwafels. It first sold me few small packets to get me hooked. And as soon as withdrawal reached peak level, BAM 192 Stroopwafels. Goodbye wallet, welcome diebetus.

@awk We were running low and getting worried. Two to three people having one a day tends to speed run the multipacks.
@awk I’m with you. I was SHOCKED that the “Meh-est Meh” pack from a few weeks ago didn’t have any.
I really want to try these, but I really don’t need to get back into triple digit stroopwafels just to catch em all. A pack of one of each plus a mystery (poorest seller) double up and I’m good!
I received the chocolate stroops last week. these came in boxes of 8 waffles in one plastic bag. In the past, they were individually wrapped.
@pmarin @reeldl I kinda like that though… if I stick an 8-pack in my freezer and take them out one by one it would feel a lot less wasteful.

Stroop me, stroop me…
(remember it sounds like rope, not hoop)
had to get in while chocolate still available.
and possibly best order name ever?

Right now you can get them at the same price at Target. They’re delicious, but maybe if you don’t want 64, just buy 8. And free shipping.
@GeorgeSully Caramel only, I think. Let me know if you find otherwise.
@dave
Also, these things are delicious. Never stop selling them.
So I’m pretty sure these are not individually wrapped. Even though I’m intrigued by the chocolate wafels I will have to pass. I can’t pass these out to friends and co-workers if they’re not individually wrapped.
Is the meh face low quality for anyone else? It looks really pixelated.!

@Willijs3 I think that’s supposed to be the irregular edges of a stroopwafel.
@blaineg @Willijs3
Looks completely smooth to me…?:
These flavors don’t sound to good to me. Honey I could eat but not that many of them.
I’m broke and I bought them anyway.
Eh, since the maple are sold out and no caramel… I’ll grab some chocolate and try them with vanilla ice cream.
@FireMrshlBill Looks like Maple is back in stock. I might buy another 64 since I bought a chocolate already.
@FireMrshlBill @Tronne Ask not for whom the stroop tolls…
I’m sure they’re tasty, but each 3.5 oz serving (presumably about 1 vaffle) contains 13 grams sat fat, 36 grams sugar, and 600mg salt. And betcha can’t eat just one! So buy 'em by the boatload!! (Brought to you by the United Fund For Cardiologists Welfare.)

Why nobody calling out this cat tho
he straight up lööt the strööp

KuoH
@kuoh The maple ones have turned out to be my favorites! They don’t taste strongly maple-ish; I probably wouldn’t have known that’s what they’re supposed to be. They just taste good!
