Yes, yes, we’re all suckers for overpaying. But I have a mountain of bulk masks. Having a variety of single-serving masks available to people I encounter and who visit my home is worth it. Bought.

Not sure why, but it made me think of Halloween. if I participated in Halloween, I would give them out instead of candy… Like the Apple of the 2021’s…You know, for the old fart’s someone always gave out something healthy in the 60’s and 70’s. Muhahahaha. More expensive than Candy though. Maybe. Probably too big for children too. I keep some masks in my truck for when the Knuckleheads forget. Yeah Yeah, I am a Weird Nurse… I have been known to give them to the homeless handout seekers at street corners. Well, along with a dollar or 20 depending on my mood. Or NOTHING!!! Get a Job Damnit!!!

Could a cloth mask block anything? Science suggests yes. Not much, but something. (They’re much better at protecting others if you’re infected - a permanent handkerchief - but they block a trivial to small amount in.)
Could anything block infinitely more than 1? Um… Not if you’re not Thanos level powerful. And even he got rid of only half.
And thus ends the expansion of my original lesson on hair splitting.

Actually the best ones I bought came from China at the beginning of the Pandemic which had two straps that fit around the back of the head-can’t stand the ear loop ones especially when I wear my hearing aids.
Finally saw some N95 medical grade masks at Costco-for less than I paid per mask for the aforementioned masks from China. They had the two straps instead of the ear loops. Only problem is they were sold in packages of 100 so the total cost was expensive. Bought them anyway.
@cinoclav Does wool over your eyes protect you from Covid?? Maybe if you wore it over your nose and mouth. Of course, depending on the wool, that could be uncomfortable…
@stinks So… Even the worst of the tested KN95 masks show much better protection than an average cloth mask. That was my point. Snark is good. Nonsense isn’t.

@cinoclav@mehvid1@stinks Thanks-they are cheaper (about half) although slightly different from the ones I got from Costco-the ridge around the mask looks uncomfortable but I supposed you can get used to it if you wear only one type. The thing I like about the N95 masks is how rigid they are so unlike the KN95 masks, the material doesn’t go in and out as you breath and get sucked in against your nostril as it did with me.
Took bad the N95 masks were not available from the get go-I would have worn only those.

The last time they had these for sale someone said that the ones they were selling was a rip-off at something close to $0.50 each, and posted links for ebay sellers at about $0.25 each.
So, I bought some of those less expensive ones from Ebay- and they seem significantly thinner and also seem to be less able to prevent odors from penetrating them.
The only thing that I could say was any improvement was that the metal nose pieces are securely covered and locked into a pocket rather than just adhered to the surface, and subject to loosening and coming off.
I don’t know that they are any less protective, but I felt less protected in them, so I’m going to [try to] give them away to people who need, but do not have decent masks.
Neither of the ones I bought are the brand being sold here tonight.
If your KN95 fits properly, you should not be able to smell odors and it will a little difficult to inhale thru it (mask side panels should indent on inhale). Ask your pharmacist to help you conform the mask to your face so it can do its job. Stay healthy

Where they are mostly at fault is they tried to control the COVID information by silencing research scientists & physician whistleblowers & trviliszing the virus which, JSYK, is very similar to what Lame Duck mr CHEETO did & tried to do!!

@sailor777 Non-medical though doesn’t erase other potential concerns. Calling it XX95 implies N95 filtration even though it isn’t an N95. There are filtration criteria in China to be called KN95. When masks don’t meet that criteria or don’t make what their test results are, then people may imply something they may not be. Non-medical just means they haven’t been approved for medical use (which requires testing and they wouldn’t likely worry about it if they actually would pass the criteria LOL).
Of course FIT of any XX95 is required to get full advantage of any 95%+ filtration, however a mask that filters less than “advertised” likely is better than a similar mask that is rectangular instead and leaks a ton of air. It may not be better though than a rectangular mask with much better filtration due to how much can get through the fibers (rather than just in at the edges) of a low filtration mask.
As a result the non-medical label is a catch all for anything from good masks that haven’t been tested and “approved” to absolute pieces of crap.
Ditto. Was due Jan 26-Feb 1. Don’t mind the wait so much, as long as I receive the product I ordered, as described (60 kn95 5 layer individually wrapped masks).
Mine just got here. Comes with a certification from China. Makes me feel real confident with all the news recently about counterfeit products. These are individually wrapped, but not sealed, so not sterile. Probably one reason they are non-medical. Look good for the price.
@Springbank Ditto, mine just arrived this afternoon. I like the adjustable nose clip being embedded within the material, not just stuck on the outside (those always fall off).

@spavlis The NIOSH cannot approve any mask unless it is submitted for approval to a US standard, i.e. N95 etc. However, they do “assess” international masks. Here are two such assessments of Korean masks:

Lots of cloth masks take filters though, in addition to being more comfortable. And most filter media are pretty cheap. Less overall waste.
I guess these are fine if you’re a receptionist buying to fill a front-office basket.

I ordered these on January 14 and they still have not arrived.
