Last week I was pulling garden plants infected with powdery mildew. It’s not toxic like mold, but it’s not exactly good to spread around. I shook it up and got tons in the air. Did I think to put on a mask? Absolutely not. I breathed in all that mildew and had throat issues the next day.
Don’t do what I did. Wear a mask around the house, too.
Having had no illness since around February 2020 (no Covid, but also no colds, no flu, no sinus infections-from-allergies, nada) while wearing a mask outdoors, I’m convinced that “masks work” and I plan to use them going forward. This is about the right price for a KN95, maybe a bit cheaper, but this is when to stock up.
@cbl_wv Interesting. The last cold (or any kind of illness) I had was in the first week of 2020 and that was a minor 3-days and done affair. And I rarely wear a mask. I attribute my on-going healthy streak to the isolation of working from (and mostly otherwise staying) home. (By “staying home”, I mean staying within walking distance of my rural property.)
@cbl_wv See, all these people making fun of masks or Fauci are too damn ignorant to understand that they actually do work. They’re also the reason flu numbers are down significantly this past year.
The external nose bars on these masks tend to fall off. The masks with internal nose bars are more durable. If you hit the ends of the nose bars on these masks with some hot glue, they’ll stay on better.
@BadTouchRobot@joelmw, my thought also! I wear two each time & that’s it. When I get home, I set them aside, or go ahead & put them in a fn plastic bag. Hell, they only cost 15-25¢, even I’m not dat cheap!! It’s like reusing paper towels, or dryer sheets!! I’m just saying,…& even I have a lot better stuff to do then washa bunch of cheap, cheap masks, or anything thing else that inexpensive & No, I rarely ever wash a plastic zip-lock bag either, but that’s just me!!
@hchavers regardless, these masks’re cheap enough now to use as lint-free pads with Windex to clean windows, or mirrors, auto windshields, etc & since newspapers’re gettin more scarce, it’s nice to find lint-free replacement!!
I have a buy it now price and we’re getting close to it. If I hold out just one more month I’ll be in for three, just to tuck in a closet with my canned weenies and John Wayne toilet paper.
@rkindnessal Meh ain’t the only place… the former husk of this site even has a better deal if you want 100 or 2000 of them.
Truth is, if you recall about a year ago when it was pretty much impossible to find N95’s, KN95’s, or even the basic 3-layer disposable masks? Hand sanitizer (and toilet paper for some bizarre reason) was extremely scarce too. If you could even find these masks, you’d probably be paying $5-10 a piece. Some folks got into trouble for hoarding masks and other PPE to sell out of their garages for extreme markups. Meanwhile crafters were sewing and/or 3D printing face masks to help meet the demands of hospitals.
Demand far outstripped supply sending prices into the stratosphere. Manufacturers upped their production to meet demand for probably a mixture of out of concern for public health and safety as well for milking a cash cow.
But the pendulum has swung the other way now and there is such a glut that Meh, Woot, and other liquidation sites are selling a metric fuckton of these, at or below their production cost.
So, either be annoyed by the frequent appearance of masks, or prepare for the possibility of another huge surge in demand, and maybe you can one day appear on 60 Minutes to defend why you’re selling them at 10000% markup.
@clarion47, okay…I’ll use the nice protective masks when I, say, spray a small item with Acrylic Enamel, or Quick Drying Acrylic Lacquer Paint, and even when blowing the dust off the item after sanding it. Yeah, also wearing one when I spray my trees with some Herbicide since I’m cautious about any kind of ‘cide’ after being exposed to Agent Orange, and then having All sorts of medical issues! You, on the other, can continue to go maskless to prove you’ve the right to do so & have All the medical issues you want. I Am extremely happy to know you would Never, Ever be my Surgeon should I ever need an operation!!
@1DisabledWarVet Thank you for your service and yes you make good points for mask usage, but of course I was referring to the nincompoops who run, bicycle outside or who drive around in their car with their mask on all alone. I know you knew that,
I want to send these to people in CA, where they are predicting the worst fire season yet. Terrifying.
I have questions.
Okay, I’m sure this has been covered in the past, but I wasn’t following. Now I wish there was a photo of the box or container included so I could get info needed to see if these are on any of the CDC lists.
“TENGCHUANG-KN95-10” does not return any results, except ShenZhen WeiTengchuang Technology Co., Ltd. is apparently a distributor, not the manufacturer.
Has anyone here ordered these exact ones? Apparently, if there’s an FDA stamp on the box, they are NOT approved.
@Kidsandliz@mbersiam They are probably getting new batches at better prices, as suppliers ramped up production to meet demand, then wholesale prices and demand are dropping, so they are selling their overruns to meh at a discount.
I bought some masks from meh that were apparently manufactured upside down. The metal was on the seam side, and the chin part was flat. They are so much more comfortable that way. Vaccinated for now so I’m not wearing KN95.

Much better than a 5-pack of 50-layer masks.
@awk Don’t give Dr Fauci any ideas. He’ll say if a 5 layer mask is good, a 50 layer mask is 10x as effective.
@sjk3
@awk @sjk3, and if Anthony says it, then it’s true!! 🩺

@cbl_wv @cinoclav You can’t separate that from all of the other precautions taken this year.
I work in an elementary school and I haven’t been sick (with anything) since January of 2020. I too am convinced that masks work.
Hey, @jushen. Masks!
/giphy again
@joelmw Right?! I gotta say, I long for the recurring product days of pocket knives & speaker docks.
@ebatch
/giphy I love it all!!!
The external nose bars on these masks tend to fall off. The masks with internal nose bars are more durable. If you hit the ends of the nose bars on these masks with some hot glue, they’ll stay on better.
@BadTouchRobot wouldn’t that burn your nose? Semi permanent attachment…
@BadTouchRobot I’m just curious, how long and many times are re-using these masks. I haven’t had any issues.
@BadTouchRobot @joelmw, my thought also! I wear two each time & that’s it. When I get home, I set them aside, or go ahead & put them in a fn plastic bag. What is non-woven and meltblown fabric? Wait, wait, don’t tell me.
Something only Meh would list as KN95 mask?
@hchavers
That is the stuff that N-95’s are usually made out of
@hchavers regardless, these masks’re cheap enough now to use as lint-free pads with Windex to clean windows, or mirrors, auto windshields, etc & since newspapers’re gettin more scarce, it’s nice to find lint-free replacement!!
Remember when stuff here was meh but so great that they had to shut down until 8am ET to give folks a shot before they sold out at 9am?
Yeah, this crap won’t be that.
@Jonas4321 Ohh I forgot about those days. That was another VMP benefit that died.
@arbdef @Jonas4321 It didn’t die. It happened just the other day.
do these smell like chloroform?
@alacrity Only when the right person comes along.
Pricing balancing Fauci’s 10-mask suggestion and #science.
Any other old fart here think “North Korea, 38th parallel” when they see “KN95”?
Does the
help?
/giphy careless-pensive-manager
Who was that Mehsked man?!
@yakkoTDI, it was The TENGCHAUNGEMAN WITH TO CHANTO!!
Holy shit! Again?
I have a buy it now price and we’re getting close to it. If I hold out just one more month I’ll be in for three, just to tuck in a closet with my canned weenies and John Wayne toilet paper.
@show_the_maw Words of wisdom written by The Outhouse Bandit at a job my mom worked at when I was young.
This toilet paper is like John Wayne.
Rough as hell and don’t take no shit off of anyone.
COO?
What are you making with soo many mask deals.
@rkindnessal they are trying to reinforce the idea that we have a pandemic…

@ciabelle @rkindnessal lol 60 Minutes,
@ciabelle @rkindnessal a MEH-tric fuckton
@rkindnessal,!!
You know, the lecturing about still wearing a mask is extra cringe when you are trying to sell them.
Stick the masks where the sun don’t shine. Enough already!

I wonder if the writers are getting sick of having to come up with mask content
@mbersiam Well they are probably also trying to mask the fact that the meh warehouse has a ton of these left.
@Kidsandliz @mbersiam They are probably getting new batches at better prices, as suppliers ramped up production to meet demand, then wholesale prices and demand are dropping, so they are selling their overruns to meh at a discount.
@kevinrs @mbersiam Yes I realize that. I was just making a bad pun joke.
I bought some masks from meh that were apparently manufactured upside down. The metal was on the seam side, and the chin part was flat. They are so much more comfortable that way. Vaccinated for now so I’m not wearing KN95.
Now they are getting dirt cheap
