I just tried to put these up. What an absolute disaster. They don’t hold a charge worth anything. One of the strands arrived DOA, and two of the others are flickering even after being in direct sun all day. Worst purchase I’ve ever made.
@Oneroundrobb I’ve tried solar lights for Christmas lighting, it’s really hit-or-miss getting enough light for them to work for more than a few hrs.
You also have to be able to get the panel in a South-facing location with sun exposure, which is difficult for my entryway.
Some brands of panels work better than others & some use extremely poor quality rechargeable batteries.
So, I put the solar panels out in the sun to get the power for the lights, then I run the power cords inside the house, with the house lights off, so I can actually see these holiday lights? Sound lacking.
The unit has a single, 1.2 volt, 600 mah, nickel-cadmium (ni-cad) battery in it. It is good for a maximum of 500 cycles. So if you install it outdoors, you’ll get maybe 16 months use. In other words, it won’t make it to two Christmases. The solder used on the circuit board is pretty bad, hardly holds a wire. The bulbs are EXTREMELY small and very dim. Might be okay for a small dollhouse as a rain gutter decoration, or a monochrome Christmas tree light. Maybe even a small train set. Was going to use it as a Christmas float decoration, but lights are to dim to see from the sidewalk in the dark. New ni-cad batteries run about $2.80 each, and you could change the battery if you wanted. The case halves have no seal between them, so I don’t understand how they can call it “waterproof”. Some of the boxes have a giant clothes pin suitable for anchoring the far end of the lights on maybe a rain gutter or tree. Other boxes were missing this wonderful add on. Bottom line, marginal at best, just junk at worst from our “friends” with a red flag and yellow stars.
Worst lights ever. They don’t hold a charge to make it through the night. By midnight, even when set to full illumination, they start to flicker and blink (at which point they have to be turned off to avoid driving the neighbors nuts). One of the units arrived with a cracked solar panel, so it couldn’t be left in a location where it would be rained on. At the end of the holiday season, they went right into the hazmat recycling trash.
