@hchavers, No problem, these are made for lazy ACd couch tater. They slip rat over your post like a cap on a hot bottle ah beer!! Plus, you can brag ta your wife you’ve finally done some work out in the yard!!
I could actually use these, but previous experience with this type of solar charging grid has been less than “stellar.” Within six months the lens clouds over and becomes much less translucent, and eventually turns opaque. These do NOT last long in the heat, humidity, and thunderstorms of a Florida summer (a season that runs from April through October).
Notice the warranty is 90 days- that is a reasonable estimate of how long these will last.
@MrNews There really should be some sort of “e-Waste” penalty for selling some of this stuff. I have several old solar lanterns and nobody will take them as anything other than tossing in the garbage. (at least, take out the batteries and drop off at Home Depot or Batteries Plus or in a bag for curbside recycling if you have it). But the rest of the stuff, sadly just landfill. After 90 days, apparently.
@chienfou@MrNews I once brought in a computer and keyboard for “free” recycling. I was told that the computer was covered under state law, but it would be $25 if they took the keyboard! So, never tried that again…
@choral_music@mehvid1@ybmuG, I meant to say, I’m OK, You’re OK, but my mind is older than I am,… I have total recall/photographic memory, but just can’t remember notten!
To the person who said they don’t last long “in the heat, humidity, and thunderstorms of a Florida summer”, well… They don’t last long in the sunshine of a Colorado summer either. Pass.
I wouldn’t mind having something like these for my teeny patio, but I only have 3 fence posts. Oh, and I’m in the middle of my block of townhouses, so I have a security floodlight on my unit that’s only slightly less bright than the sun.
@pmarin Thanks for posting that. I hadn’t thought of that band in a L O N G time. So I spent about an hour listening to their music on YouTube. Good dose of blues (a genre they helped revitalize at the time). Wikipedia has some interesting things about the band and in particular about their vocalist Alan Wilson (staring at us in your video link above and who didn’t live much longer after that video was filmed). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Wilson_(musician)
Do you actually think I am going to go outside and work to install these on my fence? Airconditioned and lazy pass.
@hchavers Just toss them in the yard on your way to the car next time you need more alcohol.
@hchavers @yakkoTDI And if you buy enough of them, you could follow the trail home like the kids that left the bread crumbs.

@MrNews
Seems like the meh product is somewhere between dollar store disposable path lights and something like this:
https://www.voltlighting.com/guardsman-brass-post-top-led-light-bronze
That product has a lifetime warranty and replaceable bulbs and panels. But it isn’t close to meh pricing.

@MrNews They also only last a couple of months if you live in a place where it gets cold.
@MrNews April through October? You must be in North Florida where the season is shorter.
@yakkoTDI LOL, no, Tampa Bay. It’s not so bad in the Fall (Nov-Dec) and Winter (Jan-Feb)…
@MrNews @pmarin
I’ve had some success with dropping these type things off at Best Buy for recycling (aka hopecyling)
@chienfou @MrNews I once brought in a computer and keyboard for “free” recycling. I was told that the computer was covered under state law, but it would be $25 if they took the keyboard! So, never tried that again…
@MrNews @pmarin, I think I read these have rechargable batteries!!

@MrNews Same area I am in.
@1DisabledWarVet Rechargeable batteries, yes, but probably NiMH rather than lithium, and thus hardly worth the effort to scavenge.
Oooh! Sterno! Can’t wait to set them alight and get a nice warming heat for a chaffing dish!
Wait, these are solar powered? How are they supposed to heat my buffet dishes then?
Lousy meh.
@guybrush01 Put a nail through the battery and you’ll get plenty of heat.
@blaineg @guybrush01, yeah, or shoot all four with a fn 9mm & you’ll get another type of heat, like the Law!
Please Note: these will not keep your fondue warm despite the brand’s reputation
@alacrity Why would you waste delicious sterno on heating fondue? I thought we all loved mehgaritas around here.
What if I don’t have any cast aluminum posts?
@choral_music You’ll be alright.
@mehvid1

/giphy phew
@choral_music @mehvid1, I’m aight, you’re aight!!

@1DisabledWarVet @choral_music @mehvid1 i think i have that book somewhere
@1DisabledWarVet @choral_music @mehvid1 @ybmuG
the sequel was I’m Alright, You’re So So
@1DisabledWarVet @chienfou @choral_music @mehvid1 @ybmuG
@choral_music, Wooden 4 by 4s are aight, but ya have ta buy them 1st!!
@1DisabledWarVet @chienfou @choral_music @ybmuG Are we sure the sequel wasn’t titled “I’m alright, you’re… meh”??
@choral_music
First, drink a whole bunch of beer or cola from cans.
Second, watch some of these videos:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+to+cast+aluminum+from+aluminum+cans&ia=web
[If beer cans, sober up before trying any of these techniques yourself…]

Put my round posts into those square holes?
I’ve usually practiced it the other way around.
@phendrick, Are you saying ya have a square penis¿
Just asking for my girlfriend!
An obscure Meh item … That I’ve actually been looking at getting for awhile. I guess it was bound to happen sometime.

@sribe facts. i’d rather go for best pro led lighting or even pick up better and more durable items from amazon.
I will spray these white to match my deck. Paint may last longer than the lights though.
@Joeinoh
pretty sure unless you use water-colors the paint will last more than 8 hours…
