@Stallion Yup. But marketeers are prone to “enhancing” images on retail packaging and advertising materials. When’s the last time your fast food or restaurant order looked like the pic on the menu?
@ruouttaurmind@sammydog01@Stallion TBH, I purchased 6 of these back when SW: TFA came out back in '15 & the batteries still work on the two I have left. (Gave away the others as gifts.)
I picked them up at a Five Below & snagged 4 BB-8s & 2 white armor stormtroopers (they only have the death troopers here). I didn’t get them for the ink, duh, so rarely use them for that, but the ink still flows nicely. I might get a few more here.
I mess with people sometimes & flash them on my wall quickly & some people aren’t quite sure they saw something. Still, here’s a shot taken w/the pen about 1 1/2 ft from the wall & under the shadow of a shelf at my desk.
I had the Yoda projector pen a while ago. It’s actually pretty good, better if you darkened the rooms. I played around with it a lot, lost it last year. Never had to replace the battery.
Just out of curiosity has at Meh anyone checked the batteries in these things? Although I couldn’t imagine you guys sending out something with dead batteries. And even if the batteries are dead I guess they still write.
I have 11 out of 12 working which exceeded my expectations. They do take 4 LR-21 batteries (yikes) but I have a box of hearing aid batteries my mother sent me because she doesn’t understand how shipping addresses work at Amazon. Forunately Amazon understands how old ladies work so they sent her a box for free.
@aardWolf I opened up my broken one, chipped away the chunk of plastic holding the batteries in, and replaced them. Then the button didn’t line up with the hole and now it’s floating around in there. So you are indeed correct. My broken one was BB-9e and I’m really sad. Anyone want to trade for a Trolls pen?
/giphy sad
@sammydog01 - You got yours? Lucky!
Glad to hear they’re nice.
Mine are still processing too. Hope they get here by Dec 3 as promised. I still have to wrap, pack, and mail them.
@sammydog01 OK, you may release your Shopkins and Troll pens into the wild! Thanks for your very kind offer, but my package of 12 got here FINALLY on Saturday.
Just checked mine. Nine of ‘em worked great, the other three worked but were pretty dim. Write into service if you’re having issues, I’m guessing the “try it now” aspect might’ve burned down some batteries on some of them.
@dave Solid post, thanks! Cool article about a new branch on the tree of life. The science nerd in me is loving all these discoveries in cosmology, neurology and zoology (I guess)!
Like a lot of people, most of the 12 pens lights didn’t work. A few were dim which I count as not working. I ordered replacement batteries and then, unfortunately, found there’s no good way to replace the batteries. As someone else mentioned there’s a chunk of plastic holding the batteries into the top of the pen. I probably can break through it but then getting the batteries seated properly and the button back in place quickly becomes a diminishing return.
For the few that worked one of my five kids felt good about it. Liked the Lightning McQueen projection. But I keep saying “don’t use it too much” to him because I know the batteries are impossible or nearly-impossible to change easily.
I get this was a deal, but the mostly-broken percentage was too high to consider this a good purchase. Don’t buy if it becomes available again. No fun to give them to somewhat excited kids and then to have to spend time (and money) trying to fix them and then saying “yeah, the light isn’t really the important part. go write something”.
Only one of my twelve didn’t work. Of course it was my favorite, the Wonder Woman pen. I’ll get over it. The others were loved by good little girls and boys.
I am trying to understand the point. Why would I want a pen that projects? I though the purpose of the writing utensil was create images in word pictures and drawings.
@kd4psinfl Only one I can say with certainty is that the BB-8 ones are black ink. I’d assume they all are, but we all know that old saying about assuming…
I was peeved when these took forever to ship, then when they finally did, delivery was scheduled for 12/6. Now that delivery has been postponed until 12/10 I am irate!
When shipping delays occur, meh really should skip smartpost and spring for faster shipping.
So mine came - late, but I got them. Only 5 out of 12 worked. Then I took the dead ones out of the packaging, and all but one worked.
Poor Spiderman is a dimwit.
Can’t press hard enough through the packaging to operate some of them.
If yours don’t work, open and try again. If you open carefully, you can repackage them and barely tell they were opened.
Same. Most didn’t work. I ordered batteries but then realized they can’t be changed. I have 5 kids and didn’t even have enough for all of their stockings. At least warn us like the fidget spinners so we can account for that in our purchasing decision.
These are so cool! I want a set! My kids however would just roll their eyes. So it’s hard to justify buying ten. Because an Xbox would be a much better gift in their opinion.
Finally, a reason not to push the “Meh” button, I was getting ready to cancel VMP. Meh, please try to offer more interesting stuff in the future. You have gone from 7 offerings per week to 5 - Saturday with nothing and Sunday with a t-shirt. What happened to your creative buyers?
So I’ve emailed twice and tweeted and no answer. Please help me. I bought the big pack and 1:2 pen projectors don’t work. What can I do? Was using them for stocking stuffers!
I’ve got 8 of 12 working, sent in my report to https://meh.com/support. I should probably not troll @ChadP so much this morning until this gets resolved.
Sooo I placed an order 11/17 in the AM… and… NOTHING… I track it, it says the 28th. I track it after it says the 30th. I track it after it says the 3rd. I track it again, it says the 5th. Now it says the 6th. WHAT THE MEH!?? I ordered these, with sufficient time, for our office Xmas party, tomorrow, which now I wont make. What Crap, Meh… just Crap!
Update to my post. I gave some more effort to pushing the buttons and found that the packaging was preventing some from turning on. Most work. One has a dead battery and two are pretty fuzzy.
What’s the point ? I project this will sell
@AttyVette Hey you stole my puns an hour before I even visited the site.
@AttyVette @Kidsandliz Stolen you say? No wonder it was a good pun.
The fake model number is definitely not the ST1NKYF4RT one. That one is legit.
@djslack Yep, model number checks out.
@djslack exactly. It’s gotta be the “one inky waist double-ot”, 1INKIW4157-00
@djslack It’s almost certainly 1INKIW4144-00, thy smie.
/giphy thy smie
I’m dubious due to the lack of an actual projected image sample in the description pix.
And no, this doesn’t count:
@ruouttaurmind Look closely and you can see the projected image on the packaging. I had to dig around and then saw it.
@Stallion Yup. But marketeers are prone to “enhancing” images on retail packaging and advertising materials. When’s the last time your fast food or restaurant order looked like the pic on the menu?
@ruouttaurmind @Stallion I bought a set and will let you guys know how awesome they are.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 @Stallion TBH, I purchased 6 of these back when SW: TFA came out back in '15 & the batteries still work on the two I have left. (Gave away the others as gifts.)

@martymar2577 Thank you! That’s why I was hoping to see in the product photos on the main page.
@martymar2577 @ruouttaurmind Now I’m excited!
No reason in the world I should buy these so I did !
Meh! You’re back! I used my vmp again.
As I think about it, I’m not sure this is a good thing…
@shahnm You Got Meh’d!!! Why would you want these if they’re not Alexa-enabled?
@shahnm They have batteries in them. Be sure you have room in your fridge.
@Kidsandliz
Have no fear… Refrigerator space is… Fuck it. I’m drunk.
These actually rank well on Amazon, look like a decent product
and if no one likes the pens maybe the batteries will fit the crap fidget spinners…

@sammydog01 I tried getting batteries out of one that wasn’t working, but wasn’t able to get it out… not sure they’re intended to be replaced.
/giphy sad
@aardWolf Hey, I can buy one for $7 on Amazon.
/giphy not quite that sad
@sammydog01 Check the Amazon reviews. Apparently plenty of them are broken.
These pens are really nice. Thanks, Meh! (To be fair I haven’t tried them all. Got to leave a few in the packaging.)
@sammydog01 hm. My order shows “processing”
@therealjrn If yours don’t make it I’ll send you the Shopkins one. Maybe the Trolls one too if you’re nice.
@sammydog01 - You got yours? Lucky!
Glad to hear they’re nice.
Mine are still processing too. Hope they get here by Dec 3 as promised. I still have to wrap, pack, and mail them.
@kdemo I’ll hang onto the emoji movie one just in case you need it.
@sammydog01 -
@kdemo @sammydog01 Mine shipped today! Due to be here Tuesday, December 4th. Meh.
@sammydog01 OK, you may release your Shopkins and Troll pens into the wild! Thanks for your very kind offer, but my package of 12 got here FINALLY on Saturday.
They’re a lot nicer than what I expected.
Just checked mine. Nine of ‘em worked great, the other three worked but were pretty dim. Write into service if you’re having issues, I’m guessing the “try it now” aspect might’ve burned down some batteries on some of them.
Why not? In for one bunch of stocking stuffers.
Abstract-lamentable-fork
@venussuz But wrong… About what?
/giphy what’s Darwin wrong about
@stinks I just spent 3 minutes googling the answer - hope you appreciate it. The bill’s in the mail. https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20126921-600-why-darwin-was-wrong-about-the-tree-of-life/
@stinks @venussuz ha, same. Here’s a non-paywall summary: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2009/jan/21/charles-darwin-evolution-species-tree-life
@stinks @venussuz Oddly happened to then read this news from today: https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4715823?__twitter_impression=true
@dave Solid post, thanks! Cool article about a new branch on the tree of life. The science nerd in me is loving all these discoveries in cosmology, neurology and zoology (I guess)!
What if we had pop sockets that projected things that were playing on your phone, 3 trillion dollar idea
Fine, fine… I’ll buy something.
Edit: This seems foreboding. Maybe this was a bad idea?
/giphy dynamic-temperate-death
@notrobocop That is an awesome giphy.
My 9y/o has been saving money to buy Christmas presents for his friends. These are perfect! I got him the 12 pack.
/giphy lisping-reputable-ninja
Cool idea, but stupid images. Where’s Batman when you need him?
7H353 MU57 R34LLY 83 5P3C14L…
@2many2no
LEET!
Great catch.
I received mine at Thanksgiving, but 9 of the 12 did not work. Not impressed!
@katbyter Did you take them out of the packaging? A lot of mine had hard plastic over the buttons and were really hard to test.
@sammydog01 I didn’t take them all out, but some, yes. No plastic cover over the button.
@katbyter Bummer. They’re pretty cool if they work.
Like a lot of people, most of the 12 pens lights didn’t work. A few were dim which I count as not working. This guy gets it, he really gets it!
@therealjrn He probably ordered light up spinners and was told the same thing when they didn’t light up. Like me.
@sammydog01 @therealjrn they totally spin. Very important.
Only one of my twelve didn’t work. Of course it was my favorite, the Wonder Woman pen. I’ll get over it. The others were loved by good little girls and boys.
Hippy time!
I am trying to understand the point. Why would I want a pen that projects? I though the purpose of the writing utensil was create images in word pictures and drawings.
@hchavers Do you only buy products for utilitarian purposes?
@craigthom I am an engineer
@craigthom @hchavers You must be an engineer that doesn’t own a cat.
@sammydog01 Why not, as long as it keeps the house clear of rodents.
Man. I wish meh would sell something worth buying
@unksol If they were worth buying they wouldn’t end up here.
I might go for it if they projected pictures of nekkid ladies.
8 Guardians, 4 Rogues. Likely not enough. You know I’m keeping one.
exquisite-violent-brick
GDI…ink color??? It matters!
@kd4psinfl Only one I can say with certainty is that the BB-8 ones are black ink. I’d assume they all are, but we all know that old saying about assuming…
FYI… I posted an image above in case anyone is curious to see what one of the projected images looks like.
My neighbors are either big kids or little kids. Star Wars are for me, though.

Meh made this bad situation as good as possible. Many thanks to ChadP for the resolution.
Most of mine don’t work either. I just emailed customer service. I don’t recall ever doing that before at Meh - hopefully they can help…
@shahnm They might have a battery problem.

Naturally, all the “good” ones sold out in a flash.
It is a safe bet that the “Emoji Movie” will be available on Morningsave on Monday and forever.
This would usually be something I’d be into for the prize table at my school…but a little too pricey still.
@goldnectar ha, I wasn’t planning to buy this but you reminded me that my kid’s teacher just asked if we had any prize toys we could donate.

@richferg what do you mean Saturday with nothing? These pens were sold Saturday.
Mine only took 11 days to begin shipping. Since FedEx SnailPost, it will probably get here on Xmas Eve.
So I’ve emailed twice and tweeted and no answer. Please help me. I bought the big pack and 1:2 pen projectors don’t work. What can I do? Was using them for stocking stuffers!
@ruthie I’ve got your case. We’ll get it sorted out. Thanks for your patience.
I’ve got 8 of 12 working, sent in my report to https://meh.com/support. I should probably not troll @ChadP so much this morning until this gets resolved.
@therealjrn Similar here… Two aren’t working for me. One feels like it could be a dead battery, and the other has a jammed button.
@aardWolf Reine got me fixed up–best solution anyway.
Sooo I placed an order 11/17 in the AM… and… NOTHING… I track it, it says the 28th. I track it after it says the 30th. I track it after it says the 3rd. I track it again, it says the 5th. @lcassis sorry about that. It looks like they’re in your zip code now, but still may not make it in time.
You can refuse delivery of the unopened box to send it back to us - won’t cost you a thing.
Or you can hang onto 'em and bring them to the office Ymas party!
Either way, I have a Ymas gift for you. Don’t get excited.
It’s a coupon:
code: YMAS
Good once, for $5, here on meh. Only works on your account and expires 3/31/19.
Most of mine don’t work. This is pretty disappointing since they were going to be Christmas presents.
Update to my post. I gave some more effort to pushing the buttons and found that the packaging was preventing some from turning on. Most work. One has a dead battery and two are pretty fuzzy.
@kenp11
ಠ_ಠ
Four out of 12 worked. Fortunately, I have four grand kids. Leaving me empty handed.
@k5sat Did you take them out of the packages to check?
I returned mine the same day I got them…weeks ago. Still no credit.
