I’ve seen detergents that leave a better film than this camera. — disclaimer, I have no actual experience with this product (it’s likely quite lovely), just felt the need to quote Statler and Waldorf, tonight.
There’s a review on Amazon from June of this year that complains of live streaming issues in Facebook and lack of support for the app. Proceed with caution.
@finalremix@Robb
It’s a 360Fly refurb, just like this one. From the sound of the comments, they didn’t expect the “support” ecosystem to be around much longer
In the video, maybe a couple minutes in, the car passes a large structure on the right side of the road that resembles a railroad yard tower on top of a large shop building. I’m intrigued.
@PooltoyWolf there’s a building similar to that in my town. I always thought it was a jail, but I just looked it up and it turns out it’s a dialysis clinic.
@djslack Huh, go figure. I’m betting railroad for the one in the video due to the very large metal structure under it, and close proximity to a road crossing.
@djslack@therealjrn I don’t have an address; it shows up prominently in the video on the product page, a couple minutes in, on the right side of the road. Vaguely resembles a small airport control tower.
@PooltoyWolf@djslack They start the driving in Dallas heading west along Northwest Hwy at the intersection of Webb Chapel Rd., which happens to be next to Bachman Lake and Dallas Love Field Airport (on the left side of the road). There are airport landing light structures on both sides of the street at 1:15 that resemble scaffolding.
I always get a kick out of the giant Ken doll at 1:23 for Ken’s Mufflers & Brakes.
As for the building at 1:28, yeah that’s just a car wash. We have those all over the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Most of them, for some reason, have adopted that airport tower style, which at least tends to identify them easily when you’re driving around and looking for a car wash.
@cinoclav haha, any real stalker would already have that in their notes on me. I’ve said it a few times. There might be a few other breadcrumbs around here that could give you more detail.
If you stalk me at my house, bring cookies and I might even just let you in!
@cinoclav Require, no. Prefer, absolutely. IDK, we can discuss options if you get to that point. Home baked style is preferable, not like chips ahoy or some weak crap like that. But even Subway chocolate chip will work if they’re having a good day and came out gooey.
i have one of these cameras (from morningsave), I use it with the iphone and it does what it says.
the only pain is that, on the iphone at least, you download the large videos via wifi (phone to camera). It is slooooowwww. Like wifi from ten years ago.
I bought this last time and I’d go for this if I had not previously. I don’t use it much - it’s kinda weird and in most situations a regular camera is better (the output is difficult to work with and view). It’s fun for some creative situations, though, and these accessories (most of which are probably simply cheap and disposable) will support a lot of the times when you’d use this.
I really want to like this but I just can’t. A 360 camera that has difficulty with highlights and shadows is always going to have video quality issues.
@cengland0 oh yeah. I could have phrased it better. It’s more that I want to love this cheap 360 camera. The resolution of the video is like a 360 potato but dealable. It looks really smooth in playback on my phone. I just, erm, it seems like a lot of the sky is washed out yet a lot of everything else is a shade too dark. I don’t know how that part can be helped.
You could get around it in a traditional camera by pointing it the proper way and paying attention to lighting, but on a 360 camera you are by definition never going to be able to point it just in the right direction. That’s what I was trying to get at.
I bought this from morningsave a few months ago, and here’s my breakdown:
~Pros~
It was affordable (about 1/3 of the price that I saw in a local store).
It looks impressive (the look of the camera itself).
It came with a couple of accessories (not as many as this package).
It was fairly easy to set up (I’m at the age of befuddlement with technology…so if I did it, anyone can)
~Cons~
It’s hard to use (figuring out how to move it, shoot with it, etc.)
It’s only mediocre video quality (at best).
It sits in a closet 99.9% of the time (fun to play with for a day, then it collects dust).
The VR headset IS CARDBOARD (yep-seriously).
There seems to be some discrepancies in regards to the pictures they are showing. From the research I’ve done, it’s appears they are showing both the HD version and the 4K version. For example, the HD 16gb version does not have LED lights around the function/power button but instead has a small LED indicator next to it. Whereas the 4K version does have LED light around button and on the bottom of the camera. Both versions can be seen in the pictures. The HD version also does not have the ability to mount a standard tripod directly to to camera as they initially used a proprietary mounting system. The HD version requires an adapter. The 4K camera does not require adapter. Which, again, you can see both camera versions in the pictures. The HD version apparently came in both 16gb and 32gb versions. Are they indeed selling the 16gb version? That would mean it’s the first iteration of the camera the company produced. Keep in mind, the 16gb version (and the 32gb version, I believe) only shoot in 720p. Which IS technically HD but is upscaled to 1080p.
The title says “refurbished”, the description says “new” . Basically, I have no idea what I’m actually going to be getting if I give them $40. For an entry level “360°” camera that looks pretty darn terrible compared to better/newer cameras (especially 4k versions). Thus, I’m probably going to pass and put that $40 towards a better 4k 360° camera.
@cengland0 Exactly, research why that is. It’s stretching it to be that scale, basically. And when your only shooting at 720p, the end result is very blurred and smeared.
I missed this. I have one from last time. I have a tripod, I don’t need a floating grip. And a dollar store selfie stick will probably be just fine. Glad I didn’t bite last night.
Did anyone get this camera to actually work?? I opened mine up as an Xmas present and all the info online said that 360fly was no longer in business. The app reviewed consistently at 1 star and most reviewers couldn’t get the camera to work at all. Anybody having fun/luck with this?
Trying to save time to see if another app may be available to make this sucker work as depicted when I bought it last summer.
That’s no moon.
Hey! Watch this!
@hchavers here, hold my beer…
Is this refurb or new the description says both?
@StuHodgkiss refurbished camera, new accesories
if you see one of these in a proctologist’s office- run.
@alacrity this is not the line I expected from you.
@nolrak it also makes really shitty margaritas.
@alacrity @nolrak If you’re expecting anything that isn’t shitty at a proctologist’s office, you’re in the wrong place.
P.S. The Lost Boys is on.

@wonidejack S&W acknowledge your “film”.
There’s a review on Amazon from June of this year that complains of live streaming issues in Facebook and lack of support for the app. Proceed with caution.
@JoeBlog I believe the issue is with Facebook. IIRC DJI ran into the same issue with drone live streaming.
The app support (or lack thereof) would definitely be an issue though.
@JoeBlog @Robb It’s not made by ION, is it?
@finalremix @JoeBlog @Robb IZON? I have a large collection of camera-like paperweights from them. I’m sure burglars are scared away nightly.

@PooltoyWolf That video freaks me out a little. It makes me feel like I’m strapped to the roof of the car.
@therealjrn It’s definitely different! This would be great for live video streaming at the Folkston Funnel (trainwatching)
@djslack What’s the address of the building you’re curious about @PooltoyWolf?
@djslack @therealjrn I don’t have an address; it shows up prominently in the video on the product page, a couple minutes in, on the right side of the road. Vaguely resembles a small airport control tower.
@djslack @PooltoyWolf @therealjrn If you mean the structure at 1:29, that’s a car wash. Crank up the vid quality to 1440s and you can read the sign.
@PooltoyWolf @djslack They start the driving in Dallas heading west along Northwest Hwy at the intersection of Webb Chapel Rd., which happens to be next to Bachman Lake and Dallas Love Field Airport (on the left side of the road). All this and no mention of the giant Alfred E Newman holding muffler?
@djslack So we’ve narrowed you down to Shreveport. We’re well on the way to proper stalking!
@cinoclav haha, any real stalker would already have that in their notes on me. I’ve said it a few times. There might be a few other breadcrumbs around here that could give you more detail.

I really want to like this but I just can’t. A 360 camera that has difficulty with highlights and shadows is always going to have video quality issues.
@djslack The fact it does 360 degree video in only 1504 horizontal pixels and only holds 16GB inside internal memory was my first clue.
This is a cheap camera with a bunch of accessories
so expect it to produce videos worth around $39.

@EvilTuna31x Thanks for that info. I’d love a response from meh about all that. What are we really buying?
@EvilTuna31x
The one Meh is selling today doesn’t fit either of those resolutions. The claimed resolution is 1504 x 1504.
