Bought these earlier this year. One of 3 could not connect. All have QR codes you need to scan to set up, but you cannot see the code when plugged into a wall outlet - had to plug into a one outlet extension so I could scan the QR for setup.
So… Since these are paused after only 4, I’ll note that I bought a 4 pack of enbrighten smart switches at Lowe’s today for $10 and change. They will run off the tuya app, unconfirmed as yet whether they can be flashed with tasmota or not.
I don’t see enbrighten or the Wemo switches in the search, .
On another note, I got some Sonoff BASICR2 switches and Tasmotized them. They worked perfectly for awhile but then started to drop off the network. Only 2 out of 4 are still working. Maybe my fault in my network setup or maybe the latest Tasmota binary will work better. I still love Tasmota, but it’s not all green eggs and ham.
Bought these another time they showed up here, for the same price, they seem to be working well.
They are pretty wide, extending about half an inch on either side of a standard faceplate which, to my eye, looks less pleasing than the narrower versions.
I got these recently (maybe in a mehrathon?) and they are useful. A pain to set up but so far are working flawlessly. Used for a lava lamp and Christmas lights. Just got 3 more.
I have both these and the smaller Wemo plugs, and though they are a pain to set up, I find they are more reliable with Siri commands than the smaller ones. The smaller ones seem like they need power cycled at least once a month to keep connection to HomeKit. I’ve never had to power cycle the ones Meh is selling today.
Hrm. In the past two days, despite being home and literally running to the front door as soon as my Ring doorbell or driveway cam/light go off, I’m missing two packages. 1 from USPS supposedly delivered yesterday, and then this meh item via FedEx, whose tracking says it arrived 2 hours ago.
From reviewing footage I don’t see any thieves, and we’ve never had that issue before (touch wood.)
I’m wondering if delivery folks might have scanned it in the truck and then forgotten to drop it off? Or they got the address wrong? The school across the street is 730, and we’re 703, so I suppose that could be it, except… they’re closed today.
Anyways, has anyone ever had issues with FedEx and meh deliveries?
@notyoutoo I always thought it was silly that Amazon made their folks take pics of the deliveries, but it turns out this would be very useful in cases like this.
@notyoutoo YES. FedEx has been the worst of the delivery services recently. One package (an Irk!) made to a neighboring town and then just never showed up, and when I called they said I had to get Meh to settle it. Which they did, but no thanks to FedEx.
@TCayer Good to know. My space heaters have built in timers so no need for a smartplug but I do use them for things with inline switches that are difficult to reach like my lava lamp and some of those wax melt warmers for scents and also for outlets that are in hard to get places for my old, arthritic body.
@djslack possibly. I just know I made sure to buy the higher ones for my heaters and air conditioners in my man cave. I can have Alexa turn them on and off remotely.
These things are the absolute worst smart plugs I’ve owned.
They constantly lose connection to my home network. When you unplug it, they lose connection info and you have to set it up as new all over again.
I tried using them for months and had only problems. I finally gave up and tossed them. I replaced them with Vocolinc plugs and those work perfectly every time.
These are terrible! Could not get them to connect. There’s scan code is on them, so you can’t scan them when you have them plugged in. Wouldn’t matter anyway because they won’t connect!
@sargentdeb Mine connected fine. First you need to connect them to WeMo then after they are connected change back to your usual WiFi and continue to install. I connected all three of mine and never had to scan a code. Used the 6 step instructions that were included with them. One of the steps took forever (I forget which one) but I wasn’t in a hurry and made myself a cup of coffee while waiting. I can control them with both the WeMo app (only used it for set up though) and my Google Home.
They say these need the Wemo bridge for use with HomeKit. I’m fine with that, but do they need to be within wifi range of the bridge? I’d have to put the bridge on the first floor, front room, but the plugs would mostly go second and third floor, back rooms. Will that work?
@seanhussey if all the floors served by the same wifi network (you have multiple APs or a mesh setup) it should be fine. They’d be on the same network, I don’t think the bridge broadcasts directly to the switches like z-wave or ZigBee would need to.
Sold 4 and paused the deal? Funny
@eq52515 I’m making the same face as those plugs when I saw that!
If you only had 5 in stock, maybe this wasn’t the best choice of items to sell…?
My 10 year old daughter mentioned to me that these plugs look like someone is shocked about something…,Then my 6 year olds little friend chimes in
I’d be shocked too if someone kept trying to stick stuff in my butthole too.
Kids under 10 are like little alcoholics with the stuff they say
@ConcealedPsycho https://shirt.woot.com/offers/theyre-watching
@ConcealedPsycho probably just want to do the penny challenge
We’re working on it.
@Thumperchick
Wow, and I thought an IRK was hard to purchase…
I hope I can get one of the remaining 2 at 8am lawl
@thismyusername if you don’t want to wait and willing to pay a little more then head to https://sidedeal.com/market?q=Wemo
that jerk in Litchfield county buying two is ruining it for the rest of us!
@stevenmontes isn’t that where the prison is in Orange is the New Black?
And we’re back. Sorry about that.
@dave Thanks!
I’ll pass.
@dave Are you really, though?
@dave I only wanted it when I couldn’t have it.
Paused after selling 4 units. I eagerly await the OSHIT report…!
@shahnm can you forward it to me as well please?
Looks like the Y2K Bug is FINALLY making it’s appearance!! Only took it 22 years to show up!!
/giphy Y2K
@IndifferentDude I can’t tell if he’s saying September Fourth or That Paper Frog.
@djslack @IndifferentDude definitely September Fourth
@djslack @IndifferentDude I think he’s saying “it happened before”…
@djslack @IndifferentDude well since the text behind him says ’in depth’ I think he’s saying ‘in depth report’.
@remo28 what are you trying to do bringing things like “reading” and “logic” into a place like this?
I’m going to laugh when this changes to candy corn for sale at 8am…
@OON7 It did not. I would have preferred the candy corn.
Double the number of ways that a device can be turned off, and you quadruple the number of ways that it can be mistaken for dead or broken.
Good luck to whoever snags the last one at 8am.
Only 5 available? What in the world, was this supposed to be the start of a Meh-rathon and the website didn’t proceed to the next deal or something?
Well, I guess we all have to just stand up to turn things on and off, thanks meh.
Giving the Meh staff a well deserved long weekend.
Well that was considerate!
That is what you’re doing, right?
@mehcuda67 I think today got mixed up with April 1
Remember when we complained about speaker docks and pacific pearls being sold every other day. Ah, the Mehmories.
Stupid smart plugs!
@yakkoTDI, yeah if they’re Anything like me Dumb Ass Smart Phone then they’re not too bright!!
They have them on morningsave.com for the same price. If you are a member of Meh.com it’s free shipping on their other sites as well.
@katsuronishi and you can use coupon code VMP for extra savings
@katsuronishi @stevenmontes
*if you’re a VMP
@Ignorant @stevenmontes I became a member April 2019 and VMP wasn’t an option sadly
Here’s the direct link:
According to Wemo press release in 2018 these are compatible with Apple HomeKit with a software update so you don’t have to have the “Wemo Bridge” https://www.wemo.com/press-releases/wemo-mini-smart-plug-now-compatible-with-apple-homekit.html
@katsuronishi is that anything like the rainbow bridge to asgard?
Dang…now I want it
@densa it did make it seem more desirable… Selling out in minutes… It must be good, I should want it.
@densa @OnionSoup Now it’s available and I no longer want it.
Bought these earlier this year. One of 3 could not connect. All have QR codes you need to scan to set up, but you cannot see the code when plugged into a wall outlet - had to plug into a one outlet extension so I could scan the QR for setup.

@djslack interesting, need to look into this tasmota stuff.

Look here :

@cfg83 @djslack @LJeAYsy4LoqxEC I do not like green eggs and ham…
Meh is allowing purchases again. If everyone who said they wanted one actually buy one, they will really sell out. Chance of that happening…
Wemo is my outlet “ecosystem”, one of the few that is HomeKit native. Can’t pass up an opportunity to raise my house’s IQ
/giphy compassionate-amazed-holiday
well sheeeeeeeyit- so much for getting a jump on next year’s christmas shopping.
@alacrity
Bought these another time they showed up here, for the same price, they seem to be working well.
They are pretty wide, extending about half an inch on either side of a standard faceplate which, to my eye, looks less pleasing than the narrower versions.
@sixsmith I got these as well. I’m OK with the shape since they don’t obscure the other outlet on the faceplate rendering it useless.
Thanks Meh, but I just bought a four-pack of a similar product new for $29.
I got these recently (maybe in a mehrathon?) and they are useful. A pain to set up but so far are working flawlessly. Used for a lava lamp and Christmas lights. Just got 3 more.
Huh. The Amazon link says $72 but then I click it to read some reviews over there & the price is now $23.98!
They are beating Meh by 2 cents! PRIME! Woah, do I see a price war brewing?
Would this work for my tomato seedlings? No, really… tomatoes.
@Joedetroit the link is for a qty of 1.
@RiotDemon Well then. No price war. Thanks. It coulda been great.
I got these last time and tried for hours to get them to work with no luck
Are these ESP8266 based? Could be flashed to tasmota to become decent no cloud based IoT switch
@TehMaliron According to
@yeppers ahhh… meh.
Got these last time, set up my Christmas lights and tree on them and…LOVED IT. “Hey Google, Christmas lights on”. Instant Festive!
So I’m in for 3 more for more smarter.
(And yes, I have a separate IoT network. So less security worries)
/giphy terrific-delicious-holiday
@JaBbA64 For fun, I recommend naming the on/off scenes “Hey Google, It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” and “Hey Google, bah humbug!”
Am I the only one a little squeamish about buying refurbished electrical plugs?
Hrm. In the past two days, despite being home and literally running to the front door as soon as my Ring doorbell or driveway cam/light go off, I’m missing two packages. 1 from USPS supposedly delivered yesterday, and then this meh item via FedEx, whose tracking says it arrived 2 hours ago.

Anyone know what the amperage is? Of course they don’t post a picture of the back…
@TCayer 15A. My phone won’t let me post the picture I took of the back.
@steeltoesenator Thanks! It makes a difference if it’s 15 or 20. I could post a picture of the 15A one I had a heater plugged into that melted!
@TCayer Good to know. My space heaters have built in timers so no need for a smartplug but I do use them for things with inline switches that are difficult to reach like my lava lamp and some of those wax melt warmers for scents and also for outlets that are in hard to get places for my old, arthritic body.
@TCayer don’t 20A outlets have one prong sideways?
@djslack possibly. I just know I made sure to buy the higher ones for my heaters and air conditioners in my man cave. I can have Alexa turn them on and off remotely.
@djslack @TCayer 20AMP outlets and 20AMP appliances do. No one ever uses 20 AMP appliances.
I would never trust a cheap wifi switch with a full 15 amp load without a ul certificate.
@fbara I’ve unplugged mine and when I plug back in I just let the lights flash and eventually it connects back without needing to set it up again.
These are terrible! Could not get them to connect. There’s scan code is on them, so you can’t scan them when you have them plugged in. Wouldn’t matter anyway because they won’t connect!

Are these any better than the TP-Link Kasa mini?
They say these need the Wemo bridge for use with HomeKit. I’m fine with that, but do they need to be within wifi range of the bridge? I’d have to put the bridge on the first floor, front room, but the plugs would mostly go second and third floor, back rooms. Will that work?

Duncan!!? now I want to call my smartyphone Duncan. “hey, Duncan!” how do I make this work? “got any ideas Duncan?”
