@alacrity That entire episode was the best and most memorable online purchase event of my life. I have no idea where my toothbrushes are, but I know exactly where the shirt, bag and coin are!!!
@alacrity Both the Mrs. & I still use my Schroedinger’s Toothbrush every day, and have maintained my subscription w/ Quip since then. Not sure if it was a mistake or a bonus, but the last time my subscription renewed, instead of 2 toothbrush head replacements, I received 14 of them!! I sent Quip customer service a message to inform them of the bonus, and they said to just keep them…
Are these waterproof? I like to combine my cleaning rituals; shower, shave, brush my teeth, watch This Old House, all at the same time. I guess I’ll find out.
Like photography, where the quality of the camera is unrelated to the quality & artistry of the photos, the very best toothbrush (and toothpaste) is any one that you will use every day.
That said, I use a Sonicare at night, and an “Iatmoko” (by MPOW) mornings. It makes 40,000 strokes/minute, has 5 settings, is USB rechargeable, and came with 6 brush heads and an interdental brush. $10 on Daily Steals.

@MrNews I will 2nd your recommendation. These sonicket toothbrushes might be a medium or hard brush head which is TERRIBLE for your enamel… you really can’t trust the ones that aren’t tried and true… seen it happen a million times causing recession on poor in suspecting ppl looking for a deal.

@MrNews As a long time Sonicare user, I’m curious as to why you use one brush at night & a different brush in the morning? As the SOD, are you aware of some sort of super dental hack? Does the brush switching provide a superior dental hygene experience? Do I need to get an Atmoko specifically?
@elfunkman I like to let the brush head thoroughly dry for 24 hours before re-using it, thus the two brushes. Also having two different types is fun- I actually use different toothpaste morning & evening, more soothing at night, more minty in the AM. The Sonicare has a “MaxCare” setting that totals 3’ for before bed; the Atmoko has varying 2’ cycles. https://www.amazon.com/ATMOKO-Toothbrush-Rechargeble-Whitening-Recommend/dp/B083CTJMP5/ref=asc_df_B083CTJMP5/
It has 92% favorable ratings…
And seriously, soft bristles are essential. I’m on an immunosuppresive plus some heart meds, both of which can cause gum issues. Gentle, gentle, gentle.
Both Sonicare and Atmoko have “signals” that tell you when to change areas: 4 X 30" (or 45" on the Sonicare).
I do not see the Atmoko on Daily Steals anymore, but here are photos of the box:
@elfunkman@mehuser1212@MrNews I use a hard bristled tooth brush to clean the hard to teach bits of the water fountain for my cat and dog. Does that count? I have no idea how we even ended up with a package of hard bristled tooth brushes, so we use them for cleaning in the house and not in the mouth. Because eww.
@elfunkman@MrNews so I once asked the oral B representative when he was in my office why they make med-hard bristle toothbrushes…,. His answer was simple: “ because people buy them” I was immediately upset because they have zero benefit in the mouth and we see people that have ruined their gums over time using these toothbrushes. Aside from the gums it strips micron units of enamel of your teeth. Microns may not seem like a lot but you don’t have a lot of enamel to begin with, we’re talking millimeters, why chance it’s right?
@MrNews I’m sold! I am going to purchase an Atmoko toothbrush & a new brand of toothpaste asap. I never imagined using anything other than my Sonicare, but the idea of using two different types of brushes & paste is making my teeth feel cleaner already.
Maybe this type of “two different brushes” lifestyle isn’t for me, but I’m on the cusp of 50, and if this is a midlife crisis then so be it! My wife may have to just accept the new me. Who knows, she might even decide to join me.
I’ll definitely let you know how this works out – lucky you! (probably during the next Meh toothbrush sale, “Dent-a-Thon”, or similar occasion).
@mehuser1212@MrNews I never thought about it, but using them for dentures would seem to make sense.
The reps answer makes sense, although I’m guessing the hard bristle consumers mistakenly believe that if they can tolerate it, they must be getting a better clean.
@MrNews I agree with you on the camera analogy. However to the industry folk, when it comes to hard bristles, maybe people would be better off not brushing at all? Or maybe zero brushing is a little extreme. (Didn’t Kramer have a word for dental dislike?)
@Vee19 Meh sold Quip toothbrushes. In the time between selling them and shipping them, Quip claimed that the products Meh sold were stolen out of one of their warehouses and filed a cease and desist order so Meh wasn’t allowed to ship them out. Took about 6 weeks for it to get resolved and in the meantime, Meh offered either a refund or to wait it out. If you waited it out they sent a little goody bag that included a t-shirt and commemorative coin. If you really want to know the details, this is the original thread
As much as I am attracted to the downright guaranteed potential of this deal to end up being taken to EcoPark for recycling in a short period of time, the thing that I hesitate about the most is the complete lack of potential that a single AAA battery can provide anything close to enough sonic-ness to do any teeth cleaning. Hard pass.
My only concern would be continuing to find replacement brush heads, given that the company is gone…but if you only use these while traveling, they should last a goodly long time.
I expected these to be almost throw away quality, but was hoping for at least a few uses before doing so. All 3 of mine had corroded batteries. Not sure about the brush heads, but at least there was a package of spares.
wait- does it come with a lawsuit, tshirt & really cool coin 6 months from now?
@alacrity some people just just remember the mistakes of the past faster than I can. Thanks for the laughs, again.
@hchavers what mistake? THAT WAS EPIC!!!
(and more than a little funny to watch from a safe distance)
@alacrity lawsuit?!
@alacrity That’s a great quip… I mean really witty remark.

I’ve bought toothbrushes once from meh… I’ve learned my lesson.
@spacemart nice reference, but how will the red one die?
@hchavers @spacemart Every way imaginable…
@hchavers @spacemart Showing how the monster works.
@spacemart ooh! Cool cross stitch pattern! Thanks!
@hamjudo @hchavers @spacemart Choking on some alien sonic toothbrush.
At this price, these might be good for cleaning tile grout.
Is it really gold? Looks more like a lemon-y Sonicket

@fuzzmanmatt they are not waterproof. Says so on their archived website. The heads can be soaked, but the bodies should not be immersed in water.

Sorry, MPOW toothbrush brand is called “Atmoko.”

@mehuser1212 @MrNews Yes! Seriously, why do they even make “hard” toothbrushes? Is there anyone or any condition that benefits from these?

My teeth and gums are important to me and are expensive to replace. I’ll pay the extra money for a Sonicate.
My wife’s dentist told her to use a Sonicare toothbrush, then offered to sell her one. Glad I got that Sonicare steal from Meh a while back.
Been there, done that, have the coin to prove it!
Meh, should be good for kids

I’m on vacation so I’m using my quip bush this week, so I think about that whole saga every morning. Funny it gets referenced today!
@SnDMommy What saga? My googling has only led to other Meh threads referencing coins…

Mine had all good batteries but I didn’t know I was getting child size toothbrush heads! Good thing I only need to brush one tooth at a time!
