@bigmeh Actually, I think that’s a good thing. From trying to see a closeup of the image, looks like it’s 12V so it can deliver more watts with less current.
@bigmeh@cengland0@cinoclav what is the wattage rating on the wall wart? [24 watts, 2 amps, I can read it off an image someone [@cengland0] posted of the charger sticker.]
A good first generation Qi chargers might have reached 50% efficiency on a good day with precision alignment, but none of the ones I owned were that good.
At 50% efficiency, it would take 30 watts (2.7 amps at 12 volts) to get 15 watts into a phone.
Grabbed these last time for my LG G7 ThinQ. They do charge fast, but not as fast as usb c. I’d love em, but they deff emit a weird clicking sound as they charge. Anecdotally the clicking seems to be louder at the start and gets quieter the longer it charges. Deff can be annoying bed side, but usually I find in office or home office settings I don’t really hear it much.
Designed a charging dock for them that is available on thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3529430) for 3D printing. The dock is designed to fit my G7 (also works w/ my older G6) but it should be trivial to adjust the dock for a different fone
@sligett They make retrofit wireless charging adapters for most phones. I have one that installed inside of my old Galaxy 5, one that installs outside (but under the slim case) of my OnePlus.
@bruhaha If the write up is accurate, anything that is Samsung Fast Charge Wireless compatible and can accept 15 watts.
Some reviews say that it makes some phones too hot. This suggests that it attempts to charge at the higher power setting without checking if the device is compatible.
Bought these last time and they work quite well on my iPhone XS Max. It’s convenient to be able to plop my phone on one when not using it to keep it toppped off. No issues with either getting too warm. For those worried about it not quick charging, it still charges plenty fast. They were a good deal last time at $24, they’re a great deal at $18. I did find it funny that I had to explain to my older coworker what it was. She thought there was some fancy new camera keeping an eye on her.
I keep thinking that I’m done with this stupid site. Give me back the $5 a month. And stop having my wonderful wife get annoyed with me every time I get something else delivdred that I don’t need. I’m done meh.
Eh, ok. I’ll buy this and quit this awful site next week…
I bought these last time, and in addition to the other comment about not being a usb-type power cable, they start making a high pitched chirping noise during charging. It doesn’t do it all the time (I can’t figure out what makes it do it sometimes and not other times), but it happens often enough that we can’t use them in the bedrooms b/c the noise drives us crazy. It happens on old Droid Turbo as well as new Samsung.
The pads definitely work, but careful if you buy the third party receivers on Amazon. The one I got my girlfriend didn’t charge at all, and mine got so hot it cooked my battery.
@Mandamm One of mine works fine, the other no longer works, the wall adapter seems to have crapped out after the first time I used it. When you plug it up, the pad makes a clicking noise and does not charge the phone.
I bought these last time! I think there is still only one iPhone model that can even Qi charge so I don’t have that but we charge our Android and Galaxy phones quite well with them; even my new Pixel 3XL. It doesn’t charge Pixel as fast as their $80.00 stand though! :o But it does charge it reasonably quickly.
Unfortunately, the model number is actually PW-309, not Qi-L30N4RD. But if I got some I would definitely call them that. Actually, one would be Leonardo McNinjaturtle, one would be Léon: The Professional, and one would be King Richard the Lionheart
@tmilker thanks for that info… between that and the reported clicking I guess I’ll pass and keep using the slower charging 5w pads I already have (actually fast charge is not that important to me since I rarely have less than 50% left on my phone when I set it down to charge at night)
In case it’s not clear: the wall charger on these is not a USB type charger. It’s a charger good only for these things.
@bigmeh thanks… I wondered about that…
@bigmeh Actually, I think that’s a good thing. From trying to see a closeup of the image, looks like it’s 12V so it can deliver more watts with less current.
@bigmeh @cengland0
Hah! So it would be a good match for solar off-grid or in car/RV situations.
(Of course, with the appropriate snip and solder connector.)
As were these nice $7.50 each Meh gems:
@bigmeh @cengland0 It is 12v. Looking at one in front of me.

@shortround1911 Shortround, thank you very much for the Thing! Look me up in the 'verse.
None of my phones use wireless charging. How many charging pads should I buy?
@sligett This is common core math, yes?
@sligett at least 6, to make friends of people with real phones
@sligett They make retrofit wireless charging adapters for most phones. I have one that installed inside of my old Galaxy 5, one that installs outside (but under the slim case) of my OnePlus.
I got these last time and 3D printed a charging stand for my Galaxy S9+ using them. If anyone wants the STL, let me know.
@kyouteki I made one too! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3412519
@kyouteki Dammit! Now I want a 3D printer…
FYI does not support Apple’s “fast” wireless charge (7.5W) Qi profile. So with your iPhone 8/8+/X/XS/Max/XR, you will only get 5W wireless charging.
@akumax i have one and with an iphone 5W is darn slow.
good enough for overnight charging, but not fast enough for a desk where you’re picking your phone up every few minutes
Well I have 3 of these, hands down these are fast and work through otter box cases and work flawless.
I think Incipio was the meh droid in Star Wars.

@craigthom The card was declined.
Oops. Haven’t put the replacement card in.
/buy
@craigthom you can’t buy from a reply.
@craigthom how embarrassing for you
I’m pretty sure I know where I left it, but I’ve already got the replacement.
@craigthom @Lazarpandar
It’s a good thing there aren’t @mediocrebot commands for /poop or /do the sex thing
@craigthom @Lazarpandar
I just thought I’d point out the model number. This is becoming a bit of an obsession with me, I guess: Qi-L30N4RD.
@shahnm I see Leon Ford
@carterocket @shahnm Or just LEONARD . . . if the four is an ‘A’
@carterocket @Oldfeet Yeah - I read it as leonard…
What devices actually get 15W charging with these? I thought the Qi spec max was 10W.
@bruhaha If the write up is accurate, anything that is Samsung Fast Charge Wireless compatible and can accept 15 watts.

@bruhaha @hamjudo Nokia / Samsung went down this road before, and BOOM went the battery!

I haven’t heard of Qi but have respect for all things Q. #WWG1WGA

Meh. It fast charges my LG g7 thinq
No T-shirts until noon?
/giphy high noon
What, no puns on “insipid” yet?
@phendrick That’s my favorite Leonardo Dicaprio movie.
@phendrick Literally the comment before yours.
No shirt sale to launch the sale of shirts?
When phones can charge themselves from cellular radio, I will ready for wireless charging.
@hchavers
But, but, but…

@RedOak Yes, I am having plenty of practice with short range chargers
I am taking charge and keeping my $20.

@SnDMommy Seems to me that it does it when the sending and receiving coils aren’t lined up perfectly. Happens to me with other QI chargers, too.
@SnDMommy just wait a few years until your high frequency hearing deteriorates a bit more…

2.5 stars omegalul. Go fuck yourselves.
@Dizavid
You might be taking this Meh deal a bit too personally.
@Dizavid May I suggest Decafe?
Can I use this to charge my left testicle? It’s the only one that is Qi enabled. I find the cord method to be quite invasive…
@Bumplepimp may get too uncomfortably warm at 15watts…
Mine were DOA. Big time Meh!!! Of course I didnt contact CS.
@Mandamm One of mine works fine, the other no longer works, the wall adapter seems to have crapped out after the first time I used it. When you plug it up, the pad makes a clicking noise and does not charge the phone.

@paullaf iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, and XS Max are all Qi-compatible.
Why are they so ugly? I have thinner round ones that look like they belong.
Unfortunately, the model number is actually PW-309, not Qi-L30N4RD. But if I got some I would definitely call them that. Actually, one would be Leonardo McNinjaturtle, one would be Léon: The Professional, and one would be King Richard the Lionheart
@BoomChuck Confirmed:
Got these last time. My Galaxy S9 got way too warm fast charging with it so I ended up shying away from using them.
@tmilker thanks for that info… between that and the reported clicking I guess I’ll pass and keep using the slower charging 5w pads I already have (actually fast charge is not that important to me since I rarely have less than 50% left on my phone when I set it down to charge at night)

Save your money. These are worthless. Very weak, slow. I bought 3, returned 3. And had to pay my own return shipping.
