These are pretty nifty. I have a couple. The blades are little fabric bags with a plastic weight at the end. When they spin, the small weight keeps the blade blade-shaped, and working like it should. They don’t hurt at all to run into when they are working. $20 for 2 is a decent price.
@BethanyAnne We use one of these to blow into the crate for our pup at night. When we first got it, she put her snout near it and got hit, but no harm. (After that, she knows not to go near it.)
@agnesnutter With a half-dozen run-throughs in a dust-free room, I could match the accent and style, but not the tonal quality. That narrator is still going to do a better job.
I’ve probably owned seven or eight Zippis over the years. They’re great for using at your desk or by your bedside, or even next to your preferred spot in front of the TV. This is because the fan is quiet. Like, you’ll forget to turn it off half the time, it’s so quiet.
On the low setting, it moves enough air to be effective at close range (3-4 feet). The high setting is a little noisier but gives it about twice the range.
As long as you keep these things in mind and aren’t trying to use a Zippi to cool a whole room or whatever, this 2-pack is very worth it.
One fan that I had in my workshop fell and broke the blade assembly. Just for fun, I attached a drive belt to its motor and had it power a small lathe. Not super effective by any means, but it could work in a pinch. Mount four of them under a platform, swap the blades for some wheels and you’ve got yourself a four-wheel drive vehicle!
I have a pair of these that I bought 15 years ago from that other deal-a-day site. Very happy to have them on our nightstands on nights that aren’t quite hot enough for running the AC.
I had to look that up, but it looks much better than the Flippi. I got those here but I’m not that impressed - for one thing, the control dial is a pain, you need to use 2 hands to turn it. One to turn the dial and one to hold the fan in place.
@Xieneus They’re healthy, but this is end-of-season for fans that provide personal cooling, so it can be expected that whatever’s still in their warehouses will get moved at good prices to make room for incoming containers of fall/winter heating, humidifying, and air filter products.
@gertiestn I really think you should be able to figure that one out on your own, given that the blades are exposed on this and cloth stiffness can vary.

Gosh I LOVE that song! Such cherished memories… As I’m picturing my larger than life grandfather dancing around the kitchen I can hear his voice singing this song to me!
@Lynnerizer@mcanavino@werehatrack I remember as a young white boy in a small Texas town taking note of the separate water fountains in the county courthouse (“Whites Only”; “Colored”). I thought it was wrong then. The history of music is rife with stories of very popular minority groups touring but being denied basic accommodations outside their venues.
Despite what many people say, I do think that WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY since then. Doesn’t mean we’ve reached perfection in our human relations. That might never happen, given that there seems to be an innate antipathy in humans towards anyone who is “different”, in any cultural or physical feature whatever. You can even find that in most species of animals, who will physically attack individuals who don’t match their group phenotype. I can only hope we bring reason to bear and surpass instinct.
But the continual emphasis on what divides us as a population, including comments by “leaders” and celebrities, even those who tout “Unity”, pointing out our differences with others, will suppress that rationality.
I had these long time ago.
Pros: cloth blades, fun to play with. Old school AC motor so it lasts a pretty long time.
Cons: old school AC motor so it is not efficient, and is deceptively heavy. Cloth blades don’t move much air despite the Vornado name.
I liked it but ultimately I moved onto a USB powered fan.

In for 10. (actually 20) I’m starting a band so I figure it’s good to start with a fan base.
I’m here for the Maxell ad.
Can these stir a margarita?
@somf69 How much of an engineer are you?
Someone get the Stanley Parable narrator to read this copy, please

Purple would have been a fun color choice, more so than green.
@heartny Black is the new purple.
@blaineg Apparently
@heartny But these are so cute, and seem to be from the same litter.
@heartny @phendrick
And I’VE got such a soft spot for twins! 🪭🪭
So, I can have any color I want, as long its Black (or Green)?
@hchavers Or you have the spray paint of the color you want. (Sharpies will not be provided.)

I swear, these things look like little Pixar animated gadgets that should be jumping along behind their desk lamp.
If they were the Flippi I would be down for a pair.
@yakkoTDI That was March.
@blaineg That’s the one. I had a red one on my desk at work for about 7 years. Gave it away because I upgraded to a VFAN Viintage Mini in green.

man did Vornado die overnight or something? y’all have been selling more fans than ever

WTF are soft blades?
@gertiestn I really think you should be able to figure that one out on your own, given that the blades are exposed on this and cloth stiffness can vary.
So we have Zippos and Zippis.
What products should Zippas, Zippes, and Zippus be?
Zippys are a limited release of course.

…MY OH MY WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY…
@Lynnerizer @mcanavino @phendrick The song won an Oscar, but Baskett couldn’t be there for the event because he was black.

@Lynnerizer @mcanavino @phendrick I think this is crossing the line into politics here, so I’ll reply in the thread for that.
This guy makes me want to burn out my ear holes…
Whew, that was an exciting tale. I was really wound up. If only I had a way to chill out.
That was a very meta writeup.
@werehatrack
That’s a whole different company…
@chienfou [razzberries]
Not a fan.
@PlutoIsAPlanet Ceci n’est pas une fan
Well, you got me on the extended sale time.
