I got these last time, the “flame” is a little piece of flame shaped reflective material that rocks back and forth in a fairly predictable pattern, reflecting the stationary LED set down in the candle body. Hardly “random”. No real flicker type action, no variation in the light shape or intensity. At a glance, looks pretty realistic, but if you watch it for more than 15 seconds you see it’s just rocking back and forth on a set axis. If you set one against a wall you get this little blob of light bouncing up and down and you need to rotate it 90 degrees to get a better effect.
Two of them together works better, as they have slightly different timings and reflective properties, so I could see them working in groups and probably being fairly awesome.
They have a 5 hour timer function (no choices, just 5 hours on every 24 hours, and it starts when you set the switch), so we have it set to come on at 7 and off at midnight.
Makes a decent, if somewhat coarse clock. Candle on? Must be close to dinner time. Candle off? better get to bed …
Be wary about leaving these outside.
My better half thought to put them in lanterns on our back deck in partial sun. She was dismayed a few weeks later to find them partly melted. (Plus water somehow got into the lanterns and caused corrosion on the electrical contacts).
Then she wanted to know if I could fix them…
@troy almost certain. But they are packed up with Christmas stuff so I can’t verify right now. The description is the same. The store had stuff marked down 75% or more.
We bought some with wood grain-appearing wax outer layer, and the little leaf-like blades to simulate the flame and they’ve been great- very candle-like from across the room and nice ambiance, plus they have several timer choices [4,6,or 8 hours] which makes seasonal transitions pretty nifty.
They’re from a different brand “Vankyo” as I recall, and use 4 AA’s each, but they last for >/= 6 months at a time before I need to recharge them.
@chienfou@PhysAssist It’s the same brand name, used by the samer outfit that markets the projector, and I’m sure that the people selling Vankyo projectors and flameless candles had every bit as much of a hand in the making of both of those as the Tacklife people had in their line of stuff.

FOOLS! TOOLS! JEWELS! AWESOME!
Flameless? Do I need something to remind me of my current love life?
@phendrick So your love life went up in flames… Maybe it is time try an initial flameless approach. As
@yakkoTDI said,
@Kidsandliz @phendrick @yakkoTDI And if you get burned, consider the possibility that you’re doing it wrong.
Lol $30 for some wax and a couple of leds?
Fuck you meh
(Also here’s $5 for the month)
@thechinglish Spend more on candles.
I have these. They are pretty convincing if you’re looking at them dead-on. The “flicker” is actually quite random.
Weren’t they $6 cheaper back on March 17?
Oops $5.99 cheaper
@Euniceandrich you having heard about inflation?
what kind of wack ghost would haunt an led candle. i wouldn’t want one of those ghosts in my house, let alone two.
@omally I guess I’d rather have a ghost haunt my candle than say, the refrigerator. Or the toilet.
If I can’t set it on fire, or it can’t set me on fire, I don’t want it.
@ShotgunX You are truly this generation’s Paula Cole.
@mcanavino @ShotgunX If you can’t set this on fire you are not trying hard enough.
If you are VMP, don’t forget to use your coupon on SideDeal…
@Euniceandrich That doesn’t seem to work anymore.
@Euniceandrich @Trinityscrew It doesn’t work on the Daily Deal, but repertedly does on the rest of the site.
@Euniceandrich @werehatrack Not for me.
@Euniceandrich @Trinityscrew Check your icon. No “V”.
@Euniceandrich @Trinityscrew @werehatrack Sold out now. Thanks for ruining my chance not to buy them.
Cheaper on Side Deal today too. 2 for $24.99.

You can’t toast marshmallows with a flameless candle. Pass.
@lisagd OTOH, a flameless candle won’t spew partially-combusted oleates all over the marshmallow, either.
@werehatrack It was either that or a burner on the gas stove. At least with the candle, I could still watch TV.
@lisagd I’d probably have used my mini butane torch, but that’s because I have one. When you’ve only got a hammer…

In general this brand is great, but I’m passing because I like the D cell models because the batteries last halfway to forever.
The AA’s are bad mind you, but I like D’s.
@blaineg Are we about to have a round of “Deez Cells” jokes?
@werehatrack I provided the straight line, do with it what you will.
@blaineg Doh! “aren’t bad”.
Be wary about leaving these outside.

@mehcuda67
well… could you??
I got a set of these for $5 on after Christmas clearance last January. Pass.
@duodec Luminara brand?
@troy almost certain. But they are packed up with Christmas stuff so I can’t verify right now. The description is the same. The store had stuff marked down 75% or more.
Hmmm. How do you burn these at both ends?
@hchavers Butane torch?
And if you want the 2-button remote, you can get it with 2 plastic (instead of wax) pillars…

@PhysAssist
That’s the same folks that make the ubiquitous projector sold here !!???!!
@chienfou @PhysAssist It’s the same brand name, used by the samer outfit that markets the projector, and I’m sure that the people selling Vankyo projectors and flameless candles had every bit as much of a hand in the making of both of those as the Tacklife people had in their line of stuff.
@PhysAssist @werehatrack
FIFY
@chienfou Egg-zactly!
Any idea when I’m actually going to receive these candles?
