@awk@hchavers@werehatrack You may have a new product idea here. After said barbecue, holiday guests may inquire as to that unusual smell. This is where you proudly reveal your new line of holiday air scents. Today’s offering is Burnt Elf Ass by Aduro. You might find a way to bottle it and go head to head with CK for a piece of the fragrance market as well. Just spitball’n here.
Kind of pricey for a crappy power strip that probably won’t fit very snug, a ‘shared’ 2.1A USB charger, and maybe $4-5 in MOVs for surge protection. For that price, it should be a 4-pack and delivered by Christmas. I guess I’ll wait for my next IRK to score one of these
@JoeSeadog@Konraden I think these are made to use the center cover plate screw of a standard outlet. They often come with a long machine screw for this purpose. I had old ones in a house from decades ago (6 AC outlets, no USB since they were probably from the 1970s). You remove the plastic cover plate on the outlet, plug the thing in, then use the long screw to securely attach it. I’m guessing these have the same idea since you can see a hole in the center for this purpose. Can’t do that with Decora-style outlets since there is no center screw, or GFCIs, but you shouldn’t put something like this over a GFCI anyway for a bunch of reasons.
@pmarin If you live where those *&^%$#@ small cockroaches are an issue, removing the cover plate and installing this will probably give them a happy breeding ground. I’ve learned to caulk the edges of the cover plates to keep them out, but I’d be leery of caulking this mess because it incorporates the USB supply circuitry; it likely needs the ventilation up the back for cooling.
@JoeSeadog@pmarin@werehatrack I see a cover plate hole so it should allow a longer center machine screw to secure it to the outlet while keeping the cover plate intact, but I don’t see where it includes the screw, so a trip to the big box hardware store would be needed. All that for just 6 AC outlets instead of 2 (the 2.1A total between the two USB ports is insufficient for modern devices) makes this a hard pass at any price. Tomorrow, tomorrow, there’s always tomorrow…
I’m a little reluctant to put my trust in Arduro after learning that one of their surge protectors that I bought was recalled for “incorrect polarization and poorly soldered connections, posing shock and fire hazards.”
To be fair, the manufacturer apparently only received one report of a malfunction but the fact that a recall was issued suggests to me that they must have discovered a larger issue.
@Lynnerizer Hey, I’ll make them for you! They cost $4 to make, but it’ll cost me $80,000 to tool up my factory. So, I’ll let you have two for $80,026.99. I prefer Zelle.
Show me a sketch in MS Paint so I’ll know exactly how you’d like them to look.
I have an earlier version of this with 3 USB ports and I love it. It’s in my bathroom and I charge all kinds of things with it, like my Fitbit which I only charge while I’m showering. I even keep my Poo Pourri from Meh on the shelf.
@Fuzzalini Well, you do get extra credit for bringing together two of the most important Meh standard items: power-things and Poo Pourri. If only it had a bluetooth speaker somewhere…
Is this where we should put the elf?
@awk this is the elf’s electric shelf
@awk @hchavers I suggest rewiring it to barbecue his self-righteous ass.
@awk @hchavers @werehatrack I hope it’s non-stick.

@awk This is where we keep the EMF.

@caffeineguy I agree. These really look like some super-old tech cobbled together with a tacky shelf thing.
@caffeineguy @pmarin So, a classic meh item?
@caffeineguy @macromeh yes, an IRK-in-the-making
Show me the back!! Does it use both outlets, or just one and cover one
@JoeSeadog per the Amazon video, it’s a single outlet on bottom and didn’t even use the second for support. It’s wobbly as all get out

Does it come with a shelf-help book?
I’m having a familiar sense of deja poo.
@werehatrack Ordered these last time. Both broken on delivery.

I haven’t seen this amount of charge power since my wife got ohold of my credit card.
@hchavers
That is a weak ass credit card.
/showme Elf on an Aduro Surge Shelf Multi-Charging Station, banana for scale
@mediocrebot WHO MAKES THESE MEMES ANYWAYS?
@Lynnerizer @mediocrebot is this ai art /is this butterfly meme
@Lynnerizer @mediocrebot @russellmz Well cool. BANANA SNAKES!!!
@awk There’s money in the banana stand.
@awk @macromeh
That’s why…you always leave a note.
@mediocrebot @russellmz
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Give me 2 outlets and 6 USB ports and I’ll buy!
@Lynnerizer But only if they’re equipped to deliver more than 2.1A per USB, all at the same time.

I have nothing to say about the product. I just wanted to say that the ending of the write-up cracked me up.
I have these without the shelf. Really cheap plastic. Outlets so tightly packed it only works for 2 larger plugs at the same time for me. Hard pass.
