@hornj Apple does not make and has never made in-ear headphones like these. The regular earbuds Apple makes are excellent, but a different product category.
@djslack, you win every internet I have, and by that I mean two… maybe three internets at the most, but it’s all I have to give. Trent Reznor may have more to offer. I’m sure he could use the publicity for his rusting halos.
@jqubed for real. the only reality in which that analogy works is a.) Disordered Eating-land or b.) in which the larger reward for holding out was a larger piece of cake. (or perhaps c.) I’m Allergic To Whatever’s In That Cake-land.)
What kind should I get? What kind? So, it’s just a styling difference, that’s it?
I couldn’t agree with this copy more.I love having a spare pair of earbuds, because, emergencies!
I gott decide what kind, though. Then the color! Oh, I’m gonna be up late tonight!
Hey here’s an interesting old article on earbuds. And I’m not ripping on meh, because yeah, it is iortant to have a pair of spare cheapies around.
Meh writers are meh! They didn’t even crib well. The wikian hyperbolic discounting math explains that “k is a parameter governing the degree of discounting”. So Meh!, what’s your k?
I don’t understand the idea that the bit that sticks out of your ear is differently shaped in the 2 models. Shouldn’t it be the bit that goes in the hole (way hay!)?
@thismyusername I (think) I bought bluetooth ones that worked REALLY well on sound cancellation here. For some reason my Bose wouldn’t connect to my Amazon Fire - But I ended up getting Apple TV and the Bose work now, the others are still quality headphones I loan out to friends from time to time. $45 or something? (I might have gotten them on Amazon, I can’t remember)
@RiotDemon I’m sure the sound will play, but the package says “control for iEtc” even though the picture doesn’t show any controls. Are there any buttons on the mic? That’s where the difference would be.
@BuddTX Those Maximo iMetal earbuds were the bomb. I finally had my last pair die on me a few months ago. I loved those things. Sounded great and fit really well too.
@Bingo The iMetal buds were THE BEST - I have one set left yet to crack open. The FIRST time they offered them with the clamshell case - the ones that came in the fabric bag with later offerings were not the same.
If I had a time machine I’d go back and buy a case.
@RiotDemon I bought at least one of the later models and they were crap.
So it’s really hard to say. The iMetals were the pinnacle IMO, but who can say - maybe these will be decent. If nothing else, the price is certainly worth a gamble.
One of their strengths was the fitment in the ear and the isolation it provided. Perhaps these new ones have that as well.
@BuddTX I have several of the Sansa C200 series players received as part of a RBOC. All had output connection issues, easily fixed by soldering a few wires to bypass the broken internal traces. Rockbox open source firmware supports SDHC. These are great reliable players (now).
@knavekid LOVE ROCKBOX!!! I have several Sansa Fuze’s with Rockbox, someday I am going to have to see what life is like after Sansa Fuze, but not today!
I can’t find even a single review of either model or, for that matter, anything else by this manufacturer. If these sound like the garbage airline giveaways they’re not worth a quarter but if even one person could confirm that they are not complete garbage they’re probably worth it. Without a review of the Guppy or Sprout, I think I’ll stick to buying cheap Monoprice earbuds.
Got a Long Walk in a month and a half (Great Saunter!), these’ll be nice to have around if my normal earbuds break by then and/or I don’t feel like walking 32 miles with over-ear cans.
My son is in middle school and leaves his earbuds with knots in the cord (and sometimes worse), my wife loses hers. In for 2, a pair for each to say that I am thinking of them. Thanks meh, I’m now a thoughtful father and husband!
Would anyone be willing to take a look at my ears and tell me if they are more suited for bulbous or tapered? It’s been so long since I stuck various objects in there so I’m a little unsure of what I’m working with.
Earbuds are like sunglasses: it’s mind-boggling to me how people lose them with the frequency that seems to be common. Knock on wood, I don’t think I’ve ever lost a pair of buds, just had cable shorts or other issues that cause me to get new ones.
I’ve received so many cheapo pairs from conferences and other swag bags, but every time I’ve actually tried some out of curiosity, either the comfort or sound quality is terrible (sometimes both). I guess it makes sense to use crappy ones for kids.
@RiotDemon Funny, as it was a product to bypass regulations in the UK. Less than 4 wheels = not a car = not taxed like a car. Also folks who couldn’t get a full driver’s licenses could drive them.
@InFrom So, these arrived today, and the guy I ordered them for says they sound great for the $$, and wants more. As it happens, they are on Morningsave. Accordingly,
Yes, these are cheapos but I have bought them before as back-up. They actually work pretty well but they will not last long. Heck, but for this price you get far more than you are paying for so I’m in.
Did anyone get colors that were different from what they ordered? I’ve already messaged support, but I know they’re slammed and just wanted to see if anyone else had issues. I ordered a set of lime and a set of raspberry, but ended up with two sets of raspberry (four total). The weird thing is that I checked the order and it just says “2 Raspberry Guppy @ $8” so I’m not sure what’s going on. Maybe the screw up is on my end, but I was pretty sure of what I ordered.
no I didn’t have that problem. I orderd 2 lime and I got 2 lime and the sound is great and they work. unlike the pair of skullcandy earbuds they don’t even work on my new IPhone.enter code here

But the question is, will these stay in my ears? I’ve never had much luck with any not made by Apple.
@hornj Apple does not make and has never made in-ear headphones like these. The regular earbuds Apple makes are excellent, but a different product category.
@UtahBrian Apple made in ear headphones during the iPod era - I think around the release of the 4th gen iPod and have since then made several other models including this current one - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-In-Ear-Headphones-with-Remote-and-Mic/21648766?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1148&adid=22222222228015754909&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=176988813968&wl4=pla-282338672848&wl5=9001992&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112562587&wl11=online&wl12=21648766&wl13=&veh=sem
I do not want these.
@DaveInSoCal
@djslack, you win every internet I have, and by that I mean two… maybe three internets at the most, but it’s all I have to give. Trent Reznor may have more to offer. I’m sure he could use the publicity for his rusting halos.
Come on, let us get one of each as the two for Tuesday.
They’d be a great deal if they also had built-in knife blades .
Who wants ear guppies?
@KDemo Perhaps they’re Babel fish?
Who feels better after not eating cake?!
@jqubed for real. the only reality in which that analogy works is a.) Disordered Eating-land or b.) in which the larger reward for holding out was a larger piece of cake. (or perhaps c.) I’m Allergic To Whatever’s In That Cake-land.)
Do these come with ich?
legitimate-precocious-nut
This was the 3rd image on Google!
And you kept it?? Do you not like us, @Kyser_Soze?
Will I have to water the Sprouts? Will I have to feed the Guppies?
Joking aside, my experience with earbuds is that neodymium drivers produce the most robust sound. Wish there were some reviews though.
How about a “/math” slash command to render our favorite equations. I’m sure it will quickly become the most popular slash command.
@awk
/pi because I am hungry
@Kidsandliz
/image pi pie
@awk please mail it to me
@awk It’s a beautiful image, but I wish the value of pi was correct. (…793

I bought two sets of two guppies. My kids go through earbuds like crazy. Thanks, Meh!
And it’s not like meh is ripping me on price here. This is reasonable as you know what.
http://gizmodo.com/5617200/the-secret-scam-of-cheap-earbuds
Also, I’m older now. I may have had golden ears once, but now my high frequencies are gone anyway. It’s just aging.
@wew Reasonable, yes. But still, a “simulacrum of suck.”
Meh writers are meh! They didn’t even crib well. The wikian hyperbolic discounting math explains that “k is a parameter governing the degree of discounting”. So Meh!, what’s your k?
Last time I ordered a bunch of cheap earbuds here, based on very similar ad copy, they were complete garbage.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
@danpritts I think the saying you’re looking for is “Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
Anyone find any reviews on these? I don’t need crazy expensive earbuds, but they can’t sound like absolute garbage.
cough bullshit.
I don’t understand the idea that the bit that sticks out of your ear is differently shaped in the 2 models. Shouldn’t it be the bit that goes in the hole (way hay!)?
Having said that, in for 2!
So many unopened ear bud packages, so little time to try them all out…
Two for $15, also at Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/SPROUT-Earphones-Control-Smartphones-Tablets/dp/B01M23XM3J
10 minutes of searching, no reviews found. Something that never made it to market?
These will be the earbuds that meh sells that sound great, last forever, and are not generally rubbish… right… right… amiright?
@thismyusername I (think) I bought bluetooth ones that worked REALLY well on sound cancellation here. iWhat?
How about some shit that’s
@2many2no you can’t use this with android?
@RiotDemon I’m sure the sound will play, but the package says “control for iEtc” even though the picture doesn’t show any controls. Are there any buttons on the mic? That’s where the difference would be.
wish I knew if the guppies vs sprout had any sound difference
Maximo??? What next, a Sansa MP3 Player?? (WOOT Old timers will get this reference!!)
@BuddTX And there are no less than 3 of them in my rotation at this moment. Left my favorite on an airplane. ugh. Love me some Sansa…
@BuddTX Those Maximo iMetal earbuds were the bomb. I finally had my last pair die on me a few months ago. I loved those things. Sounded great and fit really well too.
@BuddTX My first woot purchase was a Sandisk “media player” about 10 years ago which was decent but not great.
However, the Sansa Fuze I bought 7 years ago on woot is still my go to MP3 player.
@Bingo The iMetal buds were THE BEST - I have one set left yet to crack open. The FIRST time they offered them with the clamshell case - the ones that came in the fabric bag with later offerings were not the same.
If I had a time machine I’d go back and buy a case.
@Pufferfishy how was the quality of the latter offerings?
@RiotDemon I bought at least one of the later models and they were crap.
So it’s really hard to say. The iMetals were the pinnacle IMO, but who can say - maybe these will be decent. If nothing else, the price is certainly worth a gamble.

To the " bud"ding community
Tried to buy, but it keeps saying " card is declined". Im paying with amazon, I checked there and the card is valid. So whatever screw it.
@NombreDeUsuario It’s not just you. I am really motivated to get these earbuds, so I will spend 10 minutes on this.
@NombreDeUsuario Same here, but eventually persistence won.
@NombreDeUsuario I went away in a huff…fine, forget it. Of course, I came back 20 minutes later and success.
maxi-
Same: Amazon plus another card, both declined. A first for me.
Two different cards declined. Oh well.
@Riller
@Eheulitt15 Looks like it’s working now!
/giphy bared-terrifying-behavior
Wasn’t sure If I wanted these, but with kids you can never have enough to spare. When they denied my order…I had to have them
Not even tempted…analogous to throwing money down a rat hole…yes, quality is THAT low…

My faves are some Maximos I got years ago, but these look like cheapos from the same company.
Got a Long Walk in a month and a half (Great Saunter!), these’ll be nice to have around if my normal earbuds break by then and/or I don’t feel like walking 32 miles with over-ear cans.

@Kawa oh god no it’s too early for this gif
My son is in middle school and leaves his earbuds with knots in the cord (and sometimes worse), my wife loses hers. In for 2, a pair for each to say that I am thinking of them. Thanks meh, I’m now a thoughtful father and husband!

@meddlingmonk the inner ear pieces are the same.
@meddlingmonk I would but I have an ear fetish and it just wouldn’t feel right.
goodluck though!

For a friend who was a big fan of the iMetal ones and thought it was worth a shot.
@InFrom No idea what that scene is, but I love it.
@InFrom
/youtube top gear reliant
@RiotDemon Thank you. I could only think of the Plymouth Reliant, the sedan that was the twin of that Dodge Aries my parents had.
@InFrom I think @narfcake originally linked it a few months back. Pretty funny car.
@RiotDemon Funny, as it was a product to bypass regulations in the UK. Less than 4 wheels = not a car = not taxed like a car. Also folks who couldn’t get a full driver’s licenses could drive them.
@narfcake There are these cute, little 3-wheeled vans in Italy.
@InFrom So, these arrived today, and the guy I ordered them for says they sound great for the $$, and wants more. As it happens, they are on Morningsave. Accordingly,

So the part in your ear is the same diameter on both?
why in the heck is there a video of a kid with his toung sticking out of his nose??? what the heck is wrong with him to make him do that
@hayden0323 cleft palate.
its just like why would he pick his nose with his toung when he has a perfectly good finger?!?!?
Say is that a guppy in your ear or are you just happy to see me ?
Yes, these are cheapos but I have bought them before as back-up. They actually work pretty well but they will not last long. Heck, but for this price you get far more than you are paying for so I’m in.
