Don't camp too hard.

There’s hardcore camping, where you enjoy the great outdoors by making sure every muscle in your body hurts when you wake up in the morning to delicious breakfast of cold canned beans. There’s glamping, where you admire nature from behind a wall of brocaded pillows, 4K TV, and poached swordfish.

Then there’s something in between, what most of us probably do. We can live a few days outdoors without living like a caveman. We can sleep with the animals without becoming one. We bring just enough of the comforts of home so you stay just uncomfortable enough to remember you’re in the wild. Utilitarian without being spartan. Ain’t that tough enough?

You could call it campvenience. Or campforting. But don’t, because those names are terrible. That unnamed, not especially bumpy middle ground is where this Enhance NightLux lantern hangs. It looks like it belongs in a campsite: not a frill in sight. The remote means you can put the light out without wrenching yourself out of your sleeping bag, or turn the light on without stumbling over your sleeping tentmates. More practical than a hanging chandelier, more convenient than fire.

If you sleep on an air mattress filled with a battery-powered pump, if you bring along one of those drip coffeemakers that sit on the camp stove, this is about the right balance between comfort and wilderness. If you’re all about camping hard, never mind. If you’re all about glamping, maybe stay home and watch a nature documentary or something.
