Every Mother Deserves Her Day: All You Need To Know About Mother’s Day

Many of us wouldn’t be alive today if it weren’t for moms, even including some of the moms themselves. That’s why we celebrate Mother’s Day each year: to pay tribute to the moms who got us to where we are. With it coming up so soon, we here at Sean University thought it would be best to give the greatest gift there is. No, not a Tony Little’s Gazelle. Knowledge!

Here are a few important facts and tips to keep in mind this Mother’s Day:

• Lord Ffordshire of Scotland invented Mother’s Day nearly three hundred years ago by accident. The holiday was intended to be a celebration of only his mother, Martha, but in his silly Scottish accent “It’s Martha’s Day” sounded exactly like “It’s Mother’s Day” and so people started celebrating their own moms. In the end, though, all were happy with the result (except Martha).

• If you celebrate every day like it’s Mother’s Day, that makes you a good child. And if you celebrate every day like it’s Earth Day, you’re a good citizen of the planet. But if you celebrate every day like it’s your day off, suddenly your boss has questions about your future with the company.

• The weeks leading up to Mother’s Day can be very stressful for women over 8 months pregnant with their first child, because every day it’s up in the air whether they’ll be able to cash in and get that sweet Mother’s Day swag, or if they’ll have to wait a whole goddamn year without acknowledgment.

• Similarly, once your children have children, you are no longer legally allowed to celebrate Mother’s Day, and must instead celebrate Grandparent’s Day. On the plus side, having a daughter give birth directly between Mother’s Day and Grandparent’s Day means you get two holidays in your honor in the same year. This is known among moms of a certain age as, “absolutely nailing it.”

• Many moms receive breakfast-in-bed for Mother’s Day. But why not innovate? Why not lunch-in-car? Or takeout-dinner-on-couch? This Mother’s Day, think outside the box! (Unless the box is takeout container.)
