350 Thread Count Down Alternative Pillows (Set of 4)

  • Set of four pillows is perfect if you live in a wacky Monkees-style band house
  • 350-thread-count cotton cover, which is high enough to be good but not so high it’s obviously bullshit
  • Damask stripe you’ll only ever see when you’re laundering the pillowcases
  • Optima-loft polyester fiberfill: no Optima lofts were plucked to make these pillows
  • Give them a couple days to decompress before use, like a defecting spy
  • Model: K224421 (you know it’s a truly extensive line of pillows when each one requires a seven-character designation)

Putting the "pay" in "patience".

Opinions about these pillows are sharply divided. The last two times we’ve sold them, we’ve heard back that they’re fluffy and wonderful and make for the best night’s sleep ever - and that they’re horrible to sleep on and pretty much suck. Even accounting for the varying tastes of varied sleepers, that’s a highly polarized electorate. What gives?

We think we know. The instructions with these pillows specify that you have to allow them 48 hours to decompress. They’re sent vacuum-packed or something, and after you open them, they need a little time for the polyester fiberfill to take a deep breath and expand to its full fluff. Almost everyone who waited 48 hours is happy with these. Almost everyone who reviewed them 12 hours later was disappointed.

Hey, we hate waiting, too. We want everything quicker, faster, sooner - but the question is, how much does it cost?

If you want big voluminous pillows RIGHT NOW, go to a store and pay $20 or $30 or $40 for a ready-to-go pillow. Thirty seconds after you buy it, you can sleep with it in your car in the parking lot. It’s like buying the fast pass at a theme park. Pay extra, no waiting.

But if you want a set of pillows for seven bucks each, you’re going to have to give it some time. Throw these pillows in a guest room or something and forget about them for a couple of days. Get pillows, take it slow, and they’ll puff themselves up fine. All you need is just a little patience.

Only you can decide whether to spend money to save time, or spend time to save money. Personally, we’re more inclined to spend the cash on a time-saver that’s really worth it. Like the fast pass at a theme park. We like these pillows and everything, but they’re not exactly Space Mountain.
